This past weekend I revisited BLUE THUNDER on Blu-Ray. Arthur B. Rubinstein's score is definitely a product of its time, but it's a helluva lot of fun.

The old Super Tracks CD is at least ten years old and is just about out of print. BSX only has "limited quantities available" and the music could probably sound better with modern remastering.

Anyone else out there interested in a reissue?

I believed the CD was OOP, so a few years ago when I stumbled across the vinyl record at a shop for $5 I snatched it up. I would definitely like to see this reissued so that I could own it on CD. Very good electronic score.

BT is the only Rubinstein score I have and it's a great listen. I have the Super Tracks disc but if one of the major labels releases it with a liner note booklet I'll certainly buy it.

Would make a nice Intrada release.

I too have the SuperTracks version. A re-issue/expansion would be most welcome. I have always really liked the film and it's score. Interesting note... Brian Banks and Anthony Marinelli also worked on the score (later they teamed for YOUNG GUNS among other titles)...

One of my faves. If Intrada could pull off as good a job on Blue Thunder as they did with War Games (which is one of my truly all-time favorites), I'd be a happy camper. I love the BT score (which yes, is something of a product of its time - intentionally so, iirc), but the SuperTracks release doesn't have the greatest sound quality. Given that the scores were done back-to-back, the same year (for the same director no less), I'd think some cleaner quality could be gotten from BT. Some production notes would be nice, too.

And hey, on the Rubinstein topic, since the labels have been doing so many awesome classic TV score releases lately, how about something for Rubinstein's work on Scarecrow & Mrs. King? Heck, he won an Emmy for it (deservedly so). If CHiPs can get 3 volumes released, there's always a chance... smile

Oh so true... his scores for SCARECROW & MRS. KING were awesome. Lot's of fun and always energetic.

I have always like the John Badham/Arthur B. Rubinstein's relationship as director and composer. BLUE THUNDER, WARGAMES, STAKEOUT, NICK OF TIME and many others. It seemed like when Hans Zimmer became his regular composer, I lost interest in his movies???
Strange.

Warren Oates had some fun lines in this movie.

"I had twenty years in this outfit when your idea of a good time was sittin' in front of the TV tube, watchin' Bugs Bunny... and gnawing on your fudgesicle."

Good God - nobody else could deliver that line like he did.

Rubenstein's weekly music for Columbia Pictures TV "Bring Em' Back Alive" and Fox's "The Wizard" was also extraordinarily exciting (certainly among the best scoring ever for series TV). Two episodes of "Wizard," in particular, come to mind: "Twist of Fate" and "El Dorado."

A little love you want, a little love you get, when i first saw this film way back in 83 or so i couldn't believe how they did those action scenes they were so real, my mind was pondering back and fault, they must all be studio shots because it would just be too risky to have any real live location shots with those helicopters zooming as they are, yes i was younger then and have learned alot since, but that film made me wonder how they did it more then any other film in my youth.

Listening to it now. Very enthralling score. In particular, I love the worried-sounding version of the main theme late in "Thermographics".

"Blue Thunder" and "War Games" are both great, but I'm not sure how much was left off the Supertracks BT. Now, if we could get a
c&c rendition of "The Hard Way", that would be welcomed with open
wallets.

The supertracks cd for Blue thunder is a great cd, but a new remastered release would be great because the last track of this OOP cd sounds awfull. I never understood why this Beepers track sounded so poor.

I've got the Supertracks CD, too. Remastered with improved sound. I'd be all over that.

Have the MCA vinyl and bought the Supertracks disc as soon as it came out. I'd be all over a new edition with improved sound / liner notes in a heartbeat.
