Me being the ultimate Superman fan (among other things), I couldnt help but wonder if there will ever be an expanded of John Ottman's score to Superman Returns. I know we all have our opinions about the movie and score, but I rather enjoyed the score very much. It was the first Superman movie I actually saw in theatres, as I was an infant when Superman III came out and a few years old when IV came. Going through the Superman Blue Box (perhaps one of my biggest holy grails) made me think of Superman Returns...and wondered if it will get expanded treatment soon....

It would be nice as the CD was missing some strong cues (I think....it's been so long since I've either listened or watched) but considering how the film flopped, and they want to re-boot, I doubt it will happen.

Maybe when Zack Snyder's reboot comes out next year. Would be nice. :-)

I still find myself going back to Returns. I love Ottman's softer more introspective cues and I like his action cues as well. He managed to play Williams' themes without it sounding like he just hit the "Superman" button in Pro Tools or something. (Yes, there are a couple of times, but those are in the movie, not on the CD. But I guess we're asking for those too, aren't we?)

There was a lot of complaining back when about how he "butchered" Can You Read My Mind. I thought it was a different sound for a different relationship and it was terrific.

So, yeah, I could live with an expanded CD of this.

I'm sure it'll happen eventually but earlier in the year, M.V. mentioned they were unable to license it at this time. (Too recent?) Of course, it's possible another label could do it but I think we're several years away from this happening.

There's probably hoops that need to be jumped through since Williams' music is used (similar maybe to the rights issues re: any release of Spider-man 3?)

Ah, myself being a huge Superman fan, I loved this film and the CD was missing A LOT of great cues in my opinion. the CD had a nice presentation but I wanted more music especially the scene where Superman saves Metropolis from all the would-be accidents.

It's all Warner Bros. Pictures, it wouldn't make a difference.

A shambles of a film and a woefully misguided score IMHO. I wish it could be erased, not expanded!

I thought it was awful and unnecessary. My question though is why didn't he change the orchestration of the love theme during the main and end title?

I have to agree on both points. I bought this score when it was released, and disliked it from listen one. I tried it again not so long ago, still not good.

Would there really be a demand for an 'expanded' release? Really?!!

Yes. There are Superman fans. There are score fans. I happen to really like Ottman's score, so I'd definitely buy it.

A fantastic, totally underrated movie and a wonderful score.

Please, expand it and release it, any label out there!!!

I also really enjoy this score. Much more so than Superman 3 and 4. I like how he uses John Williams themes and then has some really good music of his own. I too would purchase an expanded score.

Not a fan of the film. But a huge fan of the score. Bring on the complete edition!

The fact that there is an easily available "Do not speak of his name" product probably makes an expanded version useless business-wise.

Not to those that want to purchase an official release. Which includes a booklet and production notes.

Then explain Intrada's decision to release The Core.

An expanded official release should be welcomed during this Superman season and it would be better to cash on the 'current film' release. Hopefuly Warner bros cleared up the legallities between the orchestra contractors in order to pave way for this (from what I know from from someone important] I'll bet this would be more appreciated then what has been universaly condemed for the Zimmer outing..?

P.S Ive yet to see the new film and hear its score!
