They certainly were channeling Miami Vice when they redid the theme music starting in S3, and I absolutely hated it. Did "Hooker" make use of then-hip pop music in its episodes a la Miami Vice? I know that my favorite childhood programs, Magnum, P.I. and Simon & Simon, later succumbed to that trend and to excellent effect, particularly the former in the S7 episode "Death and Taxes", which made the Genesis song "Mama" even creepier than it already was. In fact, that episode was so "edgy", Joe Santos played the cop-of-the-week role normally inhabited by Kwan He Lim (Lt. Tanaka). As someone who was not a Miami Vice at the time (and even living near Miami, to boot) the change in detective and cop shows during that period was positively traumatic.
