The Way It Is by Bruce is in my top 5 songs ever. GORGEOUS melody and the piano playing is wonderful.

What the hell??? Is that another way of saying "I would rather want John Williams to score this"?

This is Hornsby's first score. Really interesting, I'm a fan of his music, escecially the 1986-1993 stuff. I hope we will see a soundtrack album released. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjjoJde-thc Agreed. Hornsby's an impressive musician. I saw him (and "the Range") open for Huey Lewis & the News years ago and his set blew the News away. I'd highly recommend checking out his recent stuff. Hornsby has done some very accomplished and interesting records since 1993. 2004's HALCYON DAYS has some great stuff, as does SPIRIT TRAIL. For just one example, check out this incredible opening track from HOT HOUSE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9taIQcOXIT0 I have Hot House, but I remember never really getting into that one. I guess I have to put in on again. Scenes From The Southside is my favorite album, so many classics there, with amazing piano playing. Would you say Halcyon Days and Spirit Trail have that amount of piano playing, and good tunes in the melodic pop genre?

Indeed, SPIRIT TRAIL has a few instrumental pieces. However, overall the songs aren't as much melodic pop mold. Still, there are some gems on those records for fans of his '86 - '93 output ("The Tango King," "Big Rumble," "Country Doctor," "Hot House Ball," "Resting Place," "Preacher in the Ring Pt. 2," "Fortunate Son," "Great Divide," "Going to be Some Changes Made," "Dreamland," "Circus on the Moon," "Mirror on the Wall" & "Lost in the Snow") I haven't heard it yet. But, I understand his 2009 album LEVITATE is much more in line with his melodic pop stuff with The Range.

"Hot House" is a great Bruce Hornsby album, one of my favorites, right next to "The Way It Is." Definitely check it out!

Yeah, it is strange that Blanchard isn't doing it, but the WTF was completely because Hornsby seemed like an out-of-nowhere choice. It's like, was the bass player from Midnight Oil unavailable? Such a bizarre idea, Hornsby scoring a film (especially this one). Not mad about it or anything, but it's interesting, at least.

Hornsby has always had a cinematic vibe in his music - no wonder the instrumental Windham Hill record label wanted him in the mid 80s. The Show Goes On from the Scenes From The Southside-album is perhaps the best example of a track very much film-music like. Film director Ed Zwick actually fell in love with the tune so much that he got W. G. Snuffy Walden to arrange/adapt it for the 1992 film Leaving Normal. And it's also in Backdraft. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CNFHRiLCs8

Just seems weird to have him scoring a film like this at this stage in his career. Not making fun, just seemed like a random choice.
