It's a German release, apparently this is a big trend over there of releasing complete series on blu-ray in SD. They're probably using the same video masters as the Time-Life DVD set as the original film prints no longer exist.

yes, the Germans are ace at releasing complete series. Especially cartoons. He-Man, She-Ra...
The official @Ghostbusters Twitter account just tweeted the following:
Check out the HD-remastered version of the pilot presentation for The Real Ghostbusters animated series on the Ghostbusters 1 & 2 SteelBook, then add The Real Ghostbusters on DVD and Digital to your collection! http://sonypictures.us/JoKg4Y
It's interesting that they are drawing some attention to this 4K Blu-ray feature. But does it mean anything soundtrack wise? I dunno. If it was ever going to happen, the 35th Anniversary Blowout this year would be a good time.
Eagerly awaiting to see what next month's announcements from the label are going to be.
The story behind the HD remaster of the pilot is interesting. A private collector bought a bunch of items in a job lot and one was a 16mm film reel labeled "Ghostbusters Dic 1985" or something along those lines. He got it transferred and it turned out to be the complete pilot, thought lost and only preserved on the director's VHS dupe. The collector reached out to Sony, who offered to take it off his hands and put it in the vault. The collector turned them down and did the whole remaster himself, frame by frame and put it online. Eventually, Sony paid him for his work and they're putting it on the blu-ray.
TL;DR: It's only on there because a fan found it and did the work. Nothing is in the works for the RGB soundtrack.

Very cool story - thanks for the info. Also quite the find on 16mm, and happy to hear Sony paid.

This score has been heavily on my mind. Probably since its my Number one holy grail. Shuki Levy’s music sums up my entire childhood. I hope someone does it. It would sell from GB fans alone.
