A few years back I did a number of Garvarentz restorations from LP to CD for a friend. At the time, I was pretty much indifferent to Garvarentz, but in the many listenings to the various albums in the process of cleanup and conversion I grew to truly appreciate his work. (Lord, that cover and poster for MARCO THE MAGNIFICENT has to be one of the worst, with that ghastly predominant green background.)

I'm guiltily addicted to that over-the-top vocal rendition of "Triple Cross" by Tony Allen on the UA LP, wherein the producers had to have said to Garvarentz, "give us something like THUNDERBALL." And, speaking of which, let me again thank our own beloved Dr. Alex Zambra for providing me with a rare single of TRIPLE CROSS actually sung by Tom Jones, enabling me to add a neat "bonus track" to the finished album conversion. Strangely enough, I still prefer the Tony Allen version as the Jones version is taken at a slower pace and lacks the orchestral punch of the Roland Shaw conducted album version.

This stuff is GOLD!

BTW - Dig those covers Mr. ToneRow!

Soundtrack sense tingling! I predict that some of Garvarentz music will be issued on CD by ***********........

Thanks, A&C.

BTW - is it your Canadian fortune-telling crystal ball or your mug full of tea dregs that assisted in your prediction coming true within 24 hours?

Notify us when your sixth soundtrack sense tingles again. smile

Can A&C now predict which 2 Garvarentz titles are coming "pretty soon"?
Will it be 2 vinyl LP programs re-issued onto a single CD? Or will we be treated to never-before-released Garvarentz music?

Like the sample for Un Beau Monstre don't own any of the composers scores think I have a few tracks of his on compilations.

Thought the film and the music on Du Rififi à Paname was pretty good not sure it would be interesting enough though away from the film.

The main title is very similar to Peter Gunn

There has to be loads of great French scores from 50s-70s worthy of release I would like to get all the music from Bob le Flambeur (Jo Boyer / Eddie Barclay) including the songs.

Two Garvarentz's scores are in our pipeline. They will be on the same CD. Coming pretty soon...

Wow, thanks for the pleasant news Music Box.

Georges Garvarentz was born April 1st, 1932; and GG's final film (Pétain) was released in May of 1993.

Perhaps "soon" means April or May?

The Tony Allen version of 'The Triple Cross' title song as sung on the LP and the movie:

Tom Jones also recorded it but legal issues prevented it being used.

I'm curious if 2014 will bring us some new Garvarentz scores on CD, given that the only one released last year in April was sold out very quickly and received quite a lot of positive reviews here on the board (including, of course, mine).

Could someone tell me how his name is pronounced? I've looked for some time and can't seem to find anything. Many thanks, in advance.

I've never heard his name pronounced.

I'm sure fellow Armenian-French know, such as singer Charles Aznavour. smile

Any FSMers know how to pronounce GG's name in French?

Paging Anabel Boyer? Angellilo? ... etc.

In French it depends which letter follows the "G". So it's pronounced "G" (same as "give" or "go") in Garvarentz but "zh" (roughly) for both g's in Georges.

I hope this helps!

PANIC BUTTON (1963) - the movie itself - was just released from Warner Archive.

Is there any chance of any GG CD releases in 2015?
