I view films now entirely on dvd (no cinemas), so I do not even view film trailers anymore. I only read and hear about films before viewing them. Sometimes, I'm blown-away by a film viewing experience because I really have no idea what to expect, and am rewarded many times over. The new dvd release of 'Drive' was an example of being blown-away. From the retro 80's opening titles and music by Cliff Martinez (I've gotta get this score), it was quite a ride for me! I particularly loved the scene in the strippers changing room with the women's boss and Ryan Gosling. I have a feeling this film evenly divided people into love / hate and no middle ground. I only viewed it once, but am going to purchase it and keep it. How is the music separate from the film's images - just as good or not as effective?
I think it was nominated for a slew of top BAFTA'S, but could be wrong. Overall, I was just really very surprised at how....hypnotic the film was as a viewing and listening experience.

Very good pretty much my feelings are the same as yours loved the film and I'm thinking of buying the Blu Ray since these seem to around the same price as the dvd's these days.
Loved the songs in the film nice to see them using the song from Riz Ortolani's score from 1971

Ahhh yes! When I played this snippet of song - the scene came back to me from the film's ending. Beautiful song and I'd NEVER heard it, or the singer before, but was very taken with it as well as it's placement in the film. At first when I heard it (in the film) I thought Barbra Streisand? The song plays very well in the film as counterpoint to what's just occured onscreen. Thanks for sharing this!

There are not many songs that grab my attention these days but these ones are very good especially the first one they were very well matched.

I'm not entirely sold on the movie, but I thought the score was one of 2011's very best. I wish it had gotten an Oscar nomination.

Best movie of the year, hands down.

I don't hate it but I think it's quite overrated. When it comes to thrillers I'd much rather have a sort of Haywire fun instead of the heavy, serious (depressing), overly-dramatic stuff like Drive.

Tons of style, surprisingly graphic violence. Light on story and character but that was the point, it was just an exercise in mood. The chilly tone kept me from caring about the girl, being scared of Albert Brooks. Christina Hendricks was nice but didn't have anything to do.

The electronica songs were bland but the score was excellent, a good riff on Tangerine Dream.

Not the best of the year, far from the worst.

it's watchable but completely forgettable.
It's really just about the mood since both the acting and the writing are pretty poor.
Not to mention that movies like this have been done to death

I rarely go to the movies, my home theater system is first rate. "Drive" is an excellent movie with a brilliant presentation on BLU-RAY. I thought the best movies of the year "IDES OF MARCH" and "DRIVE". Looking forward to catching "SHAME" on BLU when ity comes out.

Dave: You should consider a BLU-RAY player, movies will blow you away especially with a good surround.

I loved the film [every other shot was brilliant!] and the score, and even the use of the songs. I'm not really a fan of pop music in films, but it worked so well here.

Agreed, however I've far too many priorities at present. It would also mean I'd have to upgrade to a new high-definition tv which (for the present) I can live without. But I KNOW I'd surely love it if I saw the differences!

Just saw this last night on Blu Ray. I thought the movie was excellent, and that the score was good for it. Not sure I'd listen to it on its own, but it worked well in the movie, and the songs were well placed.

I thought Drive was an utterly amazing piece of film making.

We get so used to Fast and Furious type movies that I think something like this is lost in the shuffle.

I don't know if I cared too much about the film's director after viewing his Valhalla Rising. That movie is similarly introspective with some striking violence as well, but hard to follow and pretty snooty and overly artsy-fartsy. But this movie changed my mind about him.

The whole soundtrack, songs and score is a good listen. I love the introspective portions by Martinez, and I listen to this soundtrack fairly often.
