I didn't find the sound bad in most places, except for a couple of times where I detected tape azimuth (or what sounded like it). And the fact that a film is made in France can only serve to make it better, in my experience!
Oh yes, agreed. A lot of French films are in my home video library. I was referring to collectors who may know many details about any given composer's discography of American TV shows and movies, but may have never watched anything in a language other than English.
... and, right, the sound of JOY HOUSE isn't bad, just maybe not up to people's expectations.
And although I do have the extended/remastered edition that had a limited release a few years back (when FSM were selling copies), it would be nice to see a new edition of Enter the Dragon, with a proper booklet and liner notes.
Escape to Athena is a nice little score (for an overlong and not particularly good film IMO) but who knows if the tapes for that survive. There was a Japanese album apparently, so maybe the tapes for that are somewhere. I always thought that Aleph might put that one out themselves, but no sign so far....
There's an awful lot more of Schifrin's music that I'd like to hear on CD, most of it his tv work (Mannix and M:I most obviously).
Another vote here for Kelly's Heroes - a wide variety of themes, all enjoyable, and some high quality battlefield suspense. A delicious Morricone parody just puts the icing on the cake.
My suggestion is "Tango" (1998). For this Carlos Saura's movie, Lalo Schifrin composed top class music - several different tangos ("Tango Del Atardecer" is the best of them) but also terrific "La Represion" - one of the most dramatic cues in Schifrin's career.
