FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAKESHORE RECORDS TO RELEASE
RED LIGHTS – ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK

Featuring Original Music by Víctor Reyes

(March 5, 2012 – Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release Red Lights – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on March 6, 2012. The soundtrack features original music by Víctor Reyes (Buried, The Contestant).

Some secrets must be seen to be believed…Red Lights follows a psychologist (Sigourney Weaver) and her assistant a physicist (Cillian Murphy) whose studies debunking paranormal activity lead them to investigate a world-renowned psychic (Robert De Niro). The edge-of-your-seat thriller debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and immediately picked up distribution.

In any paranormal thriller suspense often builds out of the lack of ambient noise. "Music consists mainly of silence. In fact, writing music is to find out where are the silences, instead of where are the notes," said the film’s composer Víctor Reyes.

Composer Víctor Reyes has written music for several films in his native Spain and international productions. He has composed the music for every film directed by Red Lights director Rodrigo Cortés, including Buried and The Contestant.

In 2003 he was nominated for a Goya Award (Spain’s equivalent of the Academy Award) for his work in the film The City With No Limits (En la ciudad sin límites), again in 2008 for The Contestant, and in 2011 with the internationally acclaimed Buried. Reyes earned the 2002 Cinema Writers Circle Award (CEC) for The City With No Limits (En la ciudad sin límites). Buried was nominated for Best Action/Thriller Composition by the International Film Music Critics Association in 2011.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents Red Lights, in theaters in Spain in March, 2012. The film, which was featured at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, will be released by Millennium Entertainment in the United States later this year. The Red Lights -- Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on Lakeshore Records will be available digitally on March 6, 2012.

Watched this film last night for the first time on TV.
Very hit and miss (mostly miss) with another DeNiro performance that distracts more than impresses, Sigourney Weaver in Copy Cat/insomniac mode and that Cillian Murphy fella still too weird and creepy to really care about.
The twist, when it comes, also isn't as shocking or revelatory as it thinks it is.
However, some of the score (when it wasn't being that perpetual motion/Remote Control style, albeit with better orchestration) was really nice.
A jarring Main Title sequence similar to ones from his fellow countrymen (Devil, Mirrors and his own Buried), a short but sweet funeral scene and a tremendous finale cue that just might force me to buy the CD, after I preview it on youtube or spotify.
What do you others think?

A pity it wasn't Red Nights by Tangerine Dream...
