Fred Steiner conducts on Varese includes CORBOMITE, DOOMSDAY,... GNP ost w/DOOMSDAY & AMOK TIME LABEL X w/symphonic suite from THE ENEMY WITHIN by Sol Kaplan. these three cds contain all the best music - much of it tracked in multiple eps- well recorded , arranged and performed. So, I really see no pressing need for future releases check'em out bruce

Meh, I don't like the tempo changes and the instrument substitutions. The Charlie X "zap" cues are terrible. However, when they do eventually release lots more of the great music not yet on CD, you can ignore them.

Each to their own - much of my favorite music is not on those two, or any other disc, so I see a great need to release more. ...Though I would agree that the two Steiner Varese discs are very nice, though disagree to the nth degree that the cover all the bases. This is the only TREK cd that i find to be a truly enjoyable listening experience from start to finish brm

I actually prefer Steiner's re-do of "The Corbomite Maneuver" and "The Trouble with Tribbles" to the original soundtracks, and he did a fantastic job with "The Empath." But for "The Doomsday Machine," a vastly important score chock-full of sublime and subtle moments, you need the OST. Everybody agrees on that. I could never part with "The Paradise Syndrome," its Label X re-recording tiding me over until the OST is released. Mr Marshall is also skipping "The Cage," "Where No Man Has Gone Before," "The Enemy Within"... And what about "Shore Leave" and "The Naked Time"? Some of us grew up on these scores and audio-taped them with a microphone because soundtrack releases could barely be dreamed of. For the true TOS music fan, Mr Marshall's short rations are necessary but not sufficient.

OST for Doomsday Machine and Trouble With Tribbles is important for me. Steiner was good in the rerecordings of his own scores but I didn't care for what he did with other composer scores especially Doomsday Machine and Tribbles.

I thought the Doomsday Machine rerecording was horrible, frankly. I had no idea it was all percussion, with a little horn ensemble playing in the background, until I got that record. Snare drum sure was nice and loud. "The Corbomite Maneuver" makes up for it. I also like "Charlie X," especially "Kirk's Command" and "Goodbye Charlie."

Used a pic from the re-done series, eh. Cheers

I *LIKE* this re-touched cover. Used a pic from the re-done series, eh. Cheers It's from Varese's re-mastered version, with like, way better sound. No, it's custom cover art by Rob T. Oliver. He has a ton of them on a website somewhere.

One has to marvel at how effectively Steiner channels Bernard Herrmann in CORBMITE- ant that's a GOOD thing! bruce

I just acquired the Labe X TREK SYMPHONIC SUITES. This volume contains the classic score for THE ENEMY WITHIN which I mistakenly thought to be a tracked episode. Check it out! bruce

And they still don't contain all of the best music from the series. Luckily, the Big-Assed Box Set has everything I could possibly ask for, so yay. I also have these rerecordings, which are also quite nice and fill a niche.
