... and it's a good thing, too! Fielding had plenty of other assignments going for which he was well-paid. But he was the wrong composer for Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid so it's a good thing Dylan took on the job.

Whoa.

A very welcome and much wanted collection. Entire books have been written about The Basement Tapes. For example, see Greil Marcus' Invisible Republic: Bob Dylan's Basement Tapes revised and reprinted as The Old, Weird America: The World of Bob Dylan's Basement Tapes among others. He'll have to revise it again now. All the black market bootlegs of these tapes came down in price today, from $400 to $100 and less.

Yikes! This is the kind of insane detail that I only thought film score nerds cared about:

I bought the 18-disc Limited Collector's Edition. Today the Dylan organization sent out a bonus via download to the 5,000 customers who bought the Collector's Edition. The bonus consists of 15 concerts from 1965 including all the concerts taped for Dont Look Back as well some odds and ends. Most of it has been bootlegged, and it feels odd if not peculiar to own it all officially now.

Feel free to post a review of the box set. That's a TON of material to go through and lots of takes of songs. I would be overwhelmed by having all that--AND those live shows, to boot (no pun)!

"Most of the Time" [Alternate]

Magnificent version of a fine Dylan song, with the usual insightful lyrical brilliance and deep hurt that the best Dylan lyrics bring:

I sure love the version of "Highway 61 Revisited" Dylan played at the Isle of Wight show.
