I was just going to post this. You beat me by two minutes!

So this certainly came out of nowhere it seems (unless I was oblivious).

[Edit]

Dumb question, but if Lukas was involved with this, does that more or less make this release the definitive version, ala the past 5 releases from LLL/Intrada/FSM (I mean it is indeed complete, but still just asking)?

I'm not trying to doubt GNP, but it just throws me off when I've been learning more about the aforementioned labels over the past few months, and suddenly the first of the complete TNG scores comes from GNP Crescendo.

Just don't want to continue my growing Trek collection with this right away if LLL or Intrada were ever planning this one for later razz

I saw this on Neil Bulk's Facebook page:

When asked what was just ordered, he replied:

"You've bought the score to First Contact by Jerry and Joel Goldsmith, assembled in chronological order from the original stereo mixes. I cut it and Mike Matessino and Bruce Botnick worked on the clean up and mastering. Jeff Bond and John Takis wrote the notes and Lukas Kendall brought us all together for this one with the nice folks at GNP Crescendo. Enjoy!"

Having said that, I'm very excited! I honestly didn't know what would happen with the GNP Trek movie scores.

(And I hate to be that guy, but the you-know-what has some alternates that are not on this album - I'll live!) smile

Wow, I'm utterly surprised this came out. I didn't release GNP was still in the business of releasing soundtracks! This is great news. Hopefully they'll do Insurrection as well, which is even better than First Contact!

I thought GNP was dead. Part of me wishes this release wasn't done through them, but I will bite regardless. I still feel bitter about the Ron Jones "YOU ONLY GET FIVE MINUTES!" demand on the Best of Both Worlds soundtrack.

I just ordered it and was greeted with this press release:

April 2nd 2012 —GNP Crescendo Records, longtime home of new and classic Star Trek soundtracks, releases a long-sought limited-edition collector’s CD of Star Trek: First Contact (1996) featuring the complete score by Jerry Goldsmith (with additional music by Joel Goldsmith), newly remastered by recording engineer Bruce Botnick. Star Trek: First Contact (1996) was the most popular feature film starring the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation. When the Borg travel through time into Earth’s past, Picard and his crew must prevent them from altering a pivotal moment in human history—mankind’s “first contact” with an alien race (the peaceful Vulcans).

First Contact marked the much-anticipated return of beloved composer Jerry Goldsmith to the franchise. Goldsmith’s march from Star Trek: The Motion Picture (reused as the main title theme for The Next Generation) is instantly identifiable, and Goldsmith’s extraordinary gift for melody, thrilling orchestration and musical storytelling has made him the signature composer for Gene Roddenberry’s vision.

For First Contact, schedule constraints led Goldsmith to recruit another composer to write additional music—his son Joel. The resulting score by both men combines exciting themes from Goldsmith’s previous efforts with vital new material, including a “first contact” theme (nobly sounded by French horn) and an ominous motive for the Borg.

GNP Crescendo released the original soundtrack album to Star Trek: First Contact in 1996, featuring 45 minutes of score highlights. Since then, fans have clamored for both Goldsmiths’ complete work—particularly the thrilling “Flight of the Phoenix.” This expanded release (nearly 80 minutes) presents exactly that—including three alternate tracks—in sterling sound quality, mastered by Jerry Goldsmith’s longtime recording engineer, Bruce Botnick.

The accompanying 16-page booklet includes informative notes by Jeff Bond and John Takis and is lavishly illustrated with film stills. Star Trek: First Contact—Complete Motion Picture Score (GNPD 8079) is available solely as a physical CD from GNP Crescendo Records

And I thought the Black Cauldron was the release of the night! Here's hoping that expanded Generations is right around the corner.

Interesting that this doesn't (as of yet) appear on Intrada, SAE or MovieMusic sites. GNP's press release almost reads as though it's exclusively available through them. That, or the retailers were caught off guard like us!

Chris.

Oh hell yeah! Out of nowhere indeed! Very happily ordered! And a fourth nonsensical sentence just to use another exclamation point!

No, but really - GREAT release news. Us Star Trek fans are spoiled brats in the last few years!

Wow. Totally out of the blue. And I am getting me a copy!

I hope someone can tell us how many are being pressed, what with the 'limited edition' stamped on the top.
