This is pretty cool (if true and legitimate) - I just read this on He-man.org:

"He-Man.org member musclor.fr.st reports some rather exciting (not to mention long-waited) news! And it's just in time for the 30th Anniversary of MOTU!

Big news!

For those who are waiting for the release of the original Filmation soundtrack that was available back in the days only in France and in Argentina, your wait is finally served!

13Bis records will release on May the 14th the original soundtrack of Masters Of The Universe!

You can read the news on : http://www.13bisrecords.com

EDIT: Just to clarify things, everything was written in my first post. This is the release on CD of what was available on the agentinian audio cassette and also on the french vinyl disc back in the 80's! So it contains the same content. This is an official item, not a bootlegged one made of mp3 files.

Here is the track listing :
1. Masters of the Universe 2’50 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)
2. Teela's theme 1’25 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)
3. Orko's theme 1’52 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)

4. Sweet Dreams 1’55 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)
5. Castle Grayskull 1’25 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)
6. The Royal Family 1’42 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)
7. Orko's Crazy Race 0’55 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)
8. Snake Mountain's theme 2’00 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)
9. Méditation 1’50 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)
10. Orko and the time whell machine 1’30 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)
11. The Magic Planet 3’00 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)
12. A Friend in Need 16’00 (originale story from the TV episode)
13. Masters of the Universe (Alternative Version) 2’48 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)
14. Masters of the Universe (Spanish intro) 3’30 (Haim Saban / Shuky Levy)

So It countains the 12 bgms that we all know, the spanish introduction (because it has a song inside). The one name "12. Les bons amis 16’00 (Une histoire originale extraite de la série TV)" is the episode "A friend in need" that was available on the french vinyl disc.

The company 13 BIS RECORD is a serious compagny and will not try to release a bootleged disc.

And here is the e-mail of some one working at 13 bis records : smonteiro@13bisrecords.com . You can try to contact him for more news. He will forward to the team who's in charge of this project.

Thoughts?

Though I don't have a horse in this race, Shuki / Levy did do a couple of shows that I wouldn't mind getting a soundtrack to. This is promising news if true.

I'm guessing this release is from a pre-existing album master, and would have nothing to do with all the other original Filmation music masters which are still presumed destroyed?

That would be my assumption about the album master. As far as the other Levy Filmation tracks, doesn't Levy have all the original tapes and is just stubborn about letting someone release them? I thought I read that somewhere...

This hopefully means my dream of seeing his MYSTERIOUS CITIES OF GOLD music released is getting closer...

*edit*

Oh, they are releasing it, in a batch with He-Man!

I'll definitely pick up Masters of the Universe and Ulysse(s) 31.

Note how one of these things is not like the others?

It sounds very strange to me...
I'm afraid they are only vinyl rips..... Years ago the assistent of mr Levy told me the masters were lost, and that nowadays the legal owner of them is Disney.....

I believe that the company Classic Media own the rights to Filmation's He-Man and She-Ra cartoons, not Disney. They are currently distributing the shows on DVD. Mattel Toys recently aquired permission to make action figure toys based on characters that only appeared in the Filmation cartoons (as you know, Mattel already owns the rights to everything else He-Man/She-Ra), and they went through Classic Media to obtain those rights.

Good to see these soundtracks from animated tv series from the 80's being released.
Nice new cover and price too.

They also will reissue "Dallas".
Somebody know if the french LP for Jerome Immel's score had the original recordings?

Great for those who don't have these, but I'd rather see some C&C score releases of Real Ghostbusters, Thundercats and G.I. Joe. These album releases of cartoon shows always feel like a teaser to me rather than a definitive release.

I was talking about the rights for publishing the original soundtracks.
In the 80's they were SABAN RECORDS master tapes.
Saban Records was sold to Disney many years ago.

So the original soundtrack master tapes of Shuki Levy (Saban Records) now should be owned by Disney Records.

Cool, then someone needs to get Intrada working with them on the Saban catalog pronto! wink

That would be awesome! Maybe within the tv themes in all the languages (English, French, Spanish, Brazilian, Italian)!

YES!

The original LPs are hard to find, and putting up with scratchy amateur recordings is a pain. Even if they're just reissues with all the songs in French, I'll take it!

Here the answer of the producer about the audio sources used for this new batch:

"Il s'agit de 80 % des masters et 20% de vynils en effet , je suis allé dans la cave de SABAN à la Garennes Colombes , tout est pourri ....dans un garage ..j'ai failli pleurer ."

Can I cry? ;__;

In English that reads:

"It is a matter of 80% of the masters and 20% of vinyl in fact, I went in the cellar of SABAN to the Rabbits Doves, all is rotted ....in a garage.."

Not good.

Cool! I'd be interested in a CD of HE-MAN....although mostly for childhood nostalgia rather than musical pleasure.

"BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL!!!!"

Gosh, He-Man, you look just like Prince Adam, only with a deep voice, a tan and no nipples.

I'll buy this.
