And just last night I watched First Contact and as I have been listening to the complete score I have been truly wondering just why Joel was never given more assignments. Maybe he just never could get out of the shadow of his father.....but he was damn good in his own right. RIP Joel. You are now reunited with your father. frown

Oh man. This is really sad. Such a loss, as he had so many more scores to write. frown

Too young. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Reminds me of when Michael Kamen passed away.

God damn it. This is awful news made all the more chilling by the fact that Joel was only born a few months before my own father.

I'll never understand why Mr. Goldsmith never got the recognition he deserved. He was a master composer and not even close to a copy of his father as the uninitiated might have expected. He had a strong and unique voice. I always looked forward to hearing more from him and will miss his music dearly.

Shocking and incredibly sad news, indeed. Joel's work was his own and I feel terribly for the Goldsmith family.

Joel, you wrote great music and will be sorely missed. I agree with others who have expressed the sentiment..."You're with your father, Jerry, now." That gives some measure of comfort and peace.

Damn it, why!? 54 is way too young...that's younger than my parents. Both father and son are gone now. frown

Tomorrow I'll listen to the complete release for Star Trek First Contact in memory of both. frown

Very, very sorry to see this. I enjoyed his music, and from what little peek I had into the man himself from what he wrote on his website, he seemed like a terrific, good-humored guy.
