Here's my top 5:

  • SPARTACUS
  • THE BAD SEED
  • WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?
  • CLEOPATRA
  • THE DEVIL'S BRIGADE

I can't say that the rest might not change, but SPARTACUS will forever be number 1 for me for sentimental reasons as well as for being a great work of film music art.

    1. 'Spartacus'

    2. 'Under the Volcano'

    3. 'The Passover Plot'

    4. 'The Dead'

    5. 'Viva Zapata!'

    6. 'Unchained Melody' & 'Willard'

I actually saw 'The Passover Plot' on Hollywood Blvd. around '75 or '76. I would hope that someday it will make it's way to dvd so that people who like to 'think for themselves', can give it a shot, (or a pass), but the music was fitting.

I'm waiting for several well known scores I don't have; The Bad Seed, Carney, Prizzi's Honor and Under The Volcano, to receive fresh minting. Until then I haven't really had a chance to appreciate them, and a number of others that have fallen by the wayside into OOP status before I knew about them.

I think my capacity for 'favourites' is atrophied along ago. How can you choose with North? Did he EVER write anything bad?

    The Bad Seed started it.

    A Streetcar Named Desire
    Spartacus
    Cleopatra
    Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf
    Dragonslayer

Wow, five for Alex North is really tough.

    1) A Streetcar Named Desire--I never tire of this. It is insanely good and still grips with sexual tension.
    2) Viva Zapata! -- the score that best reflects North's studies in Mexico with Silvestre Revueltas.
    3) Long Hot Summer -- Steamy and sleazy
    4) Spartacus -- I don't even know where to begin
    5) Cleopatra -- incredible

Above not in order and I could have named many more.
