Definitely worth seeking out as it's a great road thriller. Particularly with the drawn out cello motifs. The score is VERY Herrmann-influenced. It's not necessarily a score that appeals to me on CD, but I'm in favour of getting everything out there (music-wise) with a Spielberg connection. However, I do know that if the score was replaced, Billy Goldenberg did not know anything about it. James Phillips well, I was partially kidding. I wouldnt expect you'd know since you're the one asking if it even happened. Did you actually contact Billy about it, or did you read his response somewhere? A friend of his said that Billy has alot of his music including DUEL. Someone who knows him should check out his personal inventory and what could be released. Can anyone verify this and do they know who did the replacement score? If that's true, then it did not affect the score when I saw "Duel" projected theatrically and on TV in England (in both cases, the theatrical cut). The movie is a childhood favorite and I've always seen the score as an integral part. Even as a five year old, I recognized that what I was hearing was unorthodox and totally different than anything else out there, and lent a somehow primal quality to the narrative proceedings. It's incredibly effective scoring. While the Hermann influence is obvious in some of the string writing, it is far less so in the incredibly creative percussion employment. There's a number of extended techniques and effects here that even today I can scarcely identify the origin of. The lack of brass and woodwinds helps add a distinct and unique sound to the score too. If anything I'd say the score more strongly-resembles some of Richard Rodney Bennett's more "modernistic" scoring tendencies, i.e. those heard in VOICES or FIGURES IN A LANDSCAPE than most of Hermann's output.    Posted:   Jul 5, 2014 - 4:00 PM     By:   Last Child   (Member) You could always give me a phone call and I will tell you.
