I can't get that main theme or the music for The Ganali Device out of my head! Brilliant! So great to come out of the pictures of a modern film humming a few themes!
I have finally seen this film and must say: FANTASTIC!
It seems to me that its release date between THE AVENGERS and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES unfairly made it suffer. No way it could have matched THE AVENGERS´ box office, and no way it could have gotten the pre-release respect audiences and critics had for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is neither the all-out-wink-wink-fun fest as THE AVENGERS, nor is it as dark and serious as THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.
It goes along its own way, being fun and serious, in wonderfully measured balance.
While I have a soft spot for Raimi´s "Spiderman 2" the other parts of his trilogy were disappointing to me.
And although Webb has to cover lots of familiar ground he does it in such a fresh, unfussy, and surprisingly emotionally satisfying way that I was blown away by this film.
Of course, Andrew Garfield is one of the major reasons why this succeeds. He is the perfect Spiderman, so much better than Maguire, so much more true to the comics, so much more interesting to watch (sorry, Mr. Maguire - your talents are better suited to other material).
And last but not least - the movie works also BECAUSE of James Horner´s magnificent score which IMO is one of his all time best and definitely on my top ten list this year.

i dont rate it quite as high as you do, but your critique of why the film works is spot on bruce
ps i wish we could take Doc Ock from SPIDERMAN II and put him into TAS. THAT would be the ultimate SPIDEY flic@

You mean he won't actually become Spider-Man until mid-way through the album now? What a gyp! The order of the tracks made it seem like he would become Spider-Man immediately after the Main Titles were over, and NOW you're telling me that we have to get through 8 or 9 other tracks before we'll actually get to the part where he becomes Spider-Man?
well, if you listen to MY sequence, you can get to SPIDERMAN right away!!!!! bruce
