I really enjoyed the thread on SUMMERTIME and how it has been incorrectly released on disc for years until finally a Japanese BR has it letterboxed.
There are others I have wondered about like THE LONG LONG TRAILER which I saw on a widescreen as a child which Manderley confirmed was suppoaed to be WS. I still dont understand the dvd release of KISS ME KATE in full screen when it was widescreen on laserdisc. What about FROM HERE TO ETERNITY which I have seen advertised as widescreen + in stereo?!
Can any of the experts on these mainly 1953-55 releases post a list of what films currently available should be given widescreen remasterings?

Bumping this after reading the recently bumped SUMMERTIME thread - so the discussion of other films from this period can continue.

Many widescreen films are full-frame on DVD. Off the top of my head: JOHNNY GUITAR, THE ATOMIC KID, HELL'S HALF ACRE, THE STRANGER WORE A GUN, SASKATCHEWAN, LIVING IT UP, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET THE KEYSTONE KOPS, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET THE MUMMY, THE DEADLY MANTIS, THE QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT, THE BLACK GLOVE, PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE, BRIDE OF THE MONSTER, WEST OF ZANZIBAR, RED GARTERS, etc.

It's important to research the studios policy at the time of production. Many 1.37:1 films were shown widescreen during the summer/fall of 1953 before the films actually composed for wide were ready.

FROM HERE TO ETERNITY began filming before Columbia changed to 1.85:1.

One I just found is the 1955 MIRACLE IN THE RAIN which is full frame on dvd - released in '07 .Even though imdb says this is correct, I dont believe in '55 that this wont have been framed at 1:66 or 1:85.

It is a lovely , forgotten weeper starring Jane Wyman & Van Johnson , with a great supporting cast including Barbara Nichols & Alan King.
