Just listening to this for the first time and what a fabulous score. Many thanks to Varese for this one!

Considering that the original recording is probably in a landfill somewhere, I am happy to have this.

Don't see the point of all these remarks about sound clipping or whatever it is.
Well, being a regular concert goer, the sound of a big orchestra frequently "smash" against a lot of things: walls, ceiling, people...It's part of the music.

Well, there is a big difference between natural sounds of the orchestra and digital defects. This is obviously the 2nd case but if that's on both version, it's probably just part of the original tapes/back-ups or whatever.

Those click analities around here - still baffling...

Quote from 1st CD edition, booklet, page 3:

"NOTE: Some slightly audible occassional clicks are from the original recording sessions."

End Quote.

They couldn't or wouldn't fix it for the 2nd edition.
Which is still, IMO, in every way far superior than the 1st edition.

This is a really sweet score. Romantic and grand. I was not familiar with this so purchased it based only on the sound samples. It may even replace Crossed Swords as my favorite Jarre score.
