Just made my pledge to the project. Good luck on the production, Paul.

WOW, that's fantastic news. I wasn't able to contribute sadly, but I can't wait to see this and hear what Ron Jones wrote for it! Yavar

If only we had some kind of enterprising and trekking label that would take interest.

I would hope not, but even if it is all synthesized, Ron Jones showed on TNG that he could work wonders with synths. Yavar

If this doesn't get released on CD, I'll be pissed. Jones? With an orchestra? Some retro synths? When has he ever (in most of his career, not the very early stuff) failed to deliver with this at his disposal?

Um… yeah. I agree. This is a fan favorite doing what he excels at. Hopefully there will be a CD. I'm really looking forward to hearing how this score plays out.

Well, that's perks like you said, but us non-contributors are thinking of a CD for the rest of us.

Indeed, that generic junk in the trailer hopefully isn't the score, otherwise this guy has obviously never heard real quality documentary scores before. And that trailer ... boy, have I got nothing nice to say about the documentary. So I won't!

I haven't heard much from Jones's work post-DuckTales/Star Trek TNG, so I'm not savvy as to how his style has evolved over the years, or if he steers it toward whatever style is contemporary. But I will say this definitely sounds Zimmer-esque, as in a heaping helping of rhythm but sparse melody. After listening to this for the past couple of days, though, I am warming up to it, especially the parts where it "shifts gears". 0:43-1:51 has that really "thoughtful and nostalgic" sound I dig, and 1:52-2:50 at least gets my head bobbing and my fingers tapping. If only there were a catchy, unique melody to be found amongst all that rhythm, this would be some seriously jaw-dropping trailer music. That's all that's keeping it from such.
