Wow! A SUPerb choice for this film!
If this has been threaded before apologies but this is the best news yet!
I am looking forward to hearing new pieces of music familiar with the
themes of Superman. Never been quite excited before but hopefully
Mr Zimmer will do Mr Williams Justice..!

*If it's anything exciting on the Batman soundtrax 2 go by then I'm
4 it!

What do you guys think of the usage of Howard Shore's "The Bridge of Khazad Dum" in the teaser trailer?

I think it fits, but overall I'm more concerned with being reminded of LOTR than watching the trailer; feels weird.

1) This movie will not feature Williams' themes, and Zimmer will not be doing a Williams pastiche.

2) Why are people so bent out of shape about the trailer music? It's not like it's anything new for trailers to use recognizable music. Aliens, Stargate, Children of Dune, Dragonheart, Glory, Rudy, Last of the Mohicans . . . there are tons of movies clips of cues from which have graced trailers many times. Not to mention the specifically designed trailer cues from Immediate and so forth that get used over and over. In an ideal world would it be nice to have more trailers provide a teaser of the score as well? Probably, but I don't expect the composer to have composed much for the movie a year before its release date.

I thought the music worked beautifly in the trailer.

I think it's an excellent choice. Williams' score is great, but been there, done that (same goes for Ottman, which was really a pastiche of Williams). With Snyder at the helm, I can picture Zimmer working wonderfully within his aesthetic. Can't wait to hear and see a fresh take on the wellknown subject matter!

Zimmer will definetely give us a very complex and challenging orchestral composition full of inventive themes and variations. Something like that:

I can`t wait.

My most fervent hope is that I will at no point in the film be reminded of John Williams's execrable score or theme.

I´ve never been a great Hans Zimmer fan, always believed ( which now I know is because I was just stuck in my "old golden /silver age"blueprints ),that he was the reason for the "decline" of filmscoring in the nineties when moviescores moved towards soundscapes and the same repetitive noise .
He changed my mind though with his , GLADIATOR, BATMAN scores and mostly with his THIN RED LINE score ,which I thought was truly remarkable.Even though the consisted of such repetitive soundscapes...(well at least in the case of BATMAN)
So I believe , that he might be the right choice, for it seems that the fanfare like and theme driven music for a character like Superman, just doesn´t fit into our decade anymore.

Wasn't Zimmer originally going to score this movie and then the score went to someone else (Tyler Btes?)? Would love to know if this is true and when it went back to Zimmer. Thanks!

Not that I'm aware of, no.

Ummm...either this is a really bad misunderstanding of the meaning of "Execrable", or...sarcasm?

No other name was mentioned after Zimmer stated that he wouldn't touch it with a bargepole....then he changed his mind. Not a bad choice, I have to say - as I have posted elsewhere, I loathe a lot of Zimmer's output, but when he is the money there are few to beat him. Looking forward to hearing what he comes up with.

I'm in the same boat. I believe Zimmer will add a great dark/serious tone with his music. I can just imagine what he comes up with for the parts where Superman first begins to Metropolis.

I don't think we should necessarily expect a continuation of the BATMAN sound. That's a different universe altogether. But time will show.

I'm more concerned about the use of Terrence Malick in the trailer.

I have no idea what Zimmer will compose, so I can’t make any judgment until I hear the score.

On the other hand to NOT have ANY of Williams’ iconic theme seems just plain wrong, wrong, wrong.

I know this will be a darker film as the director has said, and he’s changed the costume. I like the main
actor a lot. Maybe current times demand a different score from a movie that is over 30 years’ olds.
I can accept that premise.

On the other hand, music, even for those who don’t know film music, provides a subliminal (or more
obvious) anchor to our conscious or even subconscious. Even those with no interest in film scores
have awareness for iconic characters when they hear the Pink Panther theme, the Star Wars theme,
the Indiana Jones theme and so on.

Alexander Courage did the TV Star Trek theme. Jerry Goldsmith did new music for the Star Trek
movies that became rather iconic. Then other composers scored Star Trek movies. If memory
serves me correctly, most of them SOMEWHERE, usually towards the end, used Courage’s theme
as a Tribute, Honor, For Recognition, and as an Anchor and Reminder of iconoclastic characters, etc.

I think audiences will walk out of Man Of Steel maybe loving it or not, but all will have a vague
sense of unease because something is missing, and I think that will be the Williams’ theme. Remember,
thanks to TV and DVDs, even our current youngest know the Williams’ Superman theme.

I hope Zimmer comes up with a great hero theme. I always thought the main theme from The Last
Star Fighter would work for Superman, so who knows what we’ll hear. However, somewhere in
The Man Of Steel, I think Williams’ theme should be used, and I think we’d hear some twittering
amongst the audience as their subconscious registers “the familiar.”

And I know some of you will disagree, but ask yourself this question. It has been 50 years since the
first 007 movie. Has one ever totally skipped the Bond 007 theme? I don’t think so.

I want at least a wee bit of Williams in this movie.
