Another great album arranged by Riddle is "Love" with Rosemary Clooney. Fantastic orchestrations and Clooney never sounded better. It is said that they were having an affair when the album was recorded, and it shows.
Imagine if there was an entire instrumental LP that sustained that kind of mood and invention.
You know who is outdistancing Riddle in my estimation, as far as arranging relaxing instrumentals of popular songs: Paul Weston.
I have already 4 of his mono-era recordings of these "mood music" arrangements and they are knocking me out.
I'm a fan of Mr. Weston's instrumental albums, too ... I've bought three CDs of two albums each in recent months so now have a small collection of his works which I enjoy. I wish my father was here to listen to them ... I recall he spoke highly of Paul Weston's arrangements, long before I recognised his name on recordings. And, of course, it's his works with artists such as Doris Day and Dean Martin which more than double the number of tracks of his I have.

Add: to finish the evening (after Holst's The Planets (von Karajan/BPO), Marcello's Oboe Concerto (Holliger/I Musici) and Bruckner's 4th Symphony (Wand/KRSO)) I shall play Mood Music - Paul Weston.
Film music doesn't get so much airtime these days ...
I know you like playing your vinyl, but you need to check out the hi-rez Paris When It Sizzles. Amazing fidelity. Come Blow Your Horn is very good in hi-rez too.

Now I'm enjoying this Weston. What wonderful solos it has!
