After his attention-getting “Memento” and afore his later Bat-nanza triumphant trilogy, Mr. Nolan

was also responsible for this richly atmospheric, evocative and impressively complex thriller (replete with
David Julyan’s unique musical undercoating - that’s less about action and more about inner morality
via one of Mr. Pacino’s most quietly subtle and supremely affecting showcases that again shows
what he’s capable of guided by a director he both respects and knows how to harness his strengths.

In addition to the equally accomplished perfs from Ms. Swank and a wonderful cat-and-mouse game that
Mr. Williams does with deftly distinctive glee,

it also incorporates a superb showcase for Maura Tierney in a pair of pivotal scenes that
not only anchor the film’s revelations – SPOILER ALERT IN THE EXTREMIS if you haven’t seen the film -

yet also provides Mr. Pacino with a poignantly anguish monologue that’s a masterpiece of understatement (even whilst still wrestling with the incompacitating affliction of the movie’s title).

smile It's all aces - not only as entertainment but even as something artistically considerably more. wink

Loved this movie. Pacino's performance was top notch and I loved the setting in Alaska. Great movie indeed.

Like a lot of Nolan's movies, I'm afraid I found this film to actually be a cure for Insomnia.

It isn't quite the snoozefest that Inception is, however.

Not at all. I'm always happy to have a healthy discussion on anything, whether I like the subject matter or not. In fact I think there is nothing better than a fun discussion between folk with polarised views. What I object to is when people invite commentary and when you then put up an opposing view, they shoot you down just because THEY cannot cogently argue their opinion.

You don't fall into the latter category Neo so any time you fancy talking about a Chris Nolann directed Equalizer movie written by the Wachowski brothers (or are they brother and sister now?) and starring Mrs Craig's kitchen table then count me in.

The title suits this picture, for I've spent many a twilight watching this snoozefest, ultimately curing my INSOMNIA.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Agree 100% with OP. Well said. Definitely my favourite Pacino role... very human, despite that intense necessary determination.

As a friend of mine (currently in self-imposed exile) often says, disagreeing with someone can be just as much fun as agreeing with them.

Others (he says, darkly) have chosen to dispute that...

Present company excepted, of course!
