It's about $9, but can be borrowed for free if you're a Prime member.

I'm about to read this autobiography on my computer through that awful device called Kindle Library -- there's obviously no possibility to print those pages -- but first, could someone be kind enough and explain to me the mysterious foreword by Raksin's son? Here it is:

Most books don't begin by offering readers a choice, but you have one here because what follows is not one but two books.

The first, which follows this preface, is, for better and worse, a Reader's Digest condensation of my father's 1,000-page-plus book. (...)

The second book, which you can find using the search term "unabridged" (...)

So read the first book if you (...) are time-pressed. But consider the second book if you want to get a close look at the life of a Renaissance man who knew shockingly many of the 20th Century's greatest artists.

What does it mean? Where can i find the "unabridged" version i would fancy more than the Digest one? I did use the search term but it takes me to the word "unabridged" used by Raksin's son in that same phrase... Is there's a possibility to have access to that unabridged version somewhere else?

That puzzled me as well. It's badly formatted and I found I had to read the abridged version before getting to the unabridged version. If you go to line 2048 you'll get straight to the unabridged version.

Thank you very much Doug! I couldn't have figured it by myself. And yes : not only is already quite uneasy to read an entire book on a computer even when it's properly formatted, so you can imagine how unpleasant this can be when you can't display a proper page. THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL... The Bad : the kindle stuff. The Beautiful : David Raksin's remembrances at last. And i guess "the bad", for obviously cost issues, was the only way to get those remembrances eventually published .

I also ended up reading the abridged version first. By the time I was done, I didn't really want to read through the unabridged because I figured it would have so much of the same material repeated, just with extras. Still, I really enjoyed it.

I'm not sure what you mean by it being improperly formatted. It reads fine for me. The book is made to be read on a kindle, but the kindle app on the PC works fine as well. It's still formatted and split up by paragraphs.

Not in my case : i have to go backward quite often because it skips paragraphs ahead when i scroll "a page" down. frown

Does anyone still have this on their Kindle? I have a question.
