Who are these people?
This is from "I Only Have Eyes for You" in 1937.
That's Bing Crosby on the far left, and Rudy Vallee on the far right (appropriate because the cartoon is about this female bird who is obsessed with crooners).
But who are the 2 guys in the middle? I don't recognize them.

The one on the left has to be Eddie Cantor.

Could it be Al Jolson at center right?
Possible, although I'm not positive he was known as a crooner. I did think that the one on the left was "Banjo Eyes" Cantor, but I don't think he was known as a crooner either.
Both, though, had radio shows by 1937, if I'm not mistaken.

According to The Google, the consensus seems to be that the caricature second from the left is Eddie Cantor, with the exception of one guy who believes it's Clark Gable (read his comment on this page: http://www.bcdb.com/cartoon/491-I_Only_Have_Eyes_For_You.html), and zooba, who's voting Sinatra.
I personally had no idea who any of them were at first glance, although I recognized Bing once I read his name. I wonder if the third one from the left is a self-caricature or some other in-joke by the artist.

I'd be more inclined to believe it's Gable for the ears, and since Gable was a big name by 1937. Sinatra didn't make his first recording until 1939 and wasn't a "name" yet.
But I'd still vote for Cantor, since he was a name on radio, and that wide-eyed look is one I seem to connect with him readily.
I'm still on the fence about the third from left. I'm leaning towards Jolson, just because no other answer is familiar.
I remember Dick Todd was "competition" for Sinatra, but I don't know his look (or his sound) much at all.

The Beck and Friedwald book "Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies" doesn't mention who any of them are.
Further input from another board, and further cogitation in my brain-pan, lead me to believe that JP is correct. It must be Jolson, especially since he was a very big deal on the radio at this time.
