Oh, Lukas, regarding Charlie X and those piano overlays. In case you were wondering (and you probably weren't, hehe)

The score is wonderful and is exactly how I expected to hear it. Kudos to you and the guys!

This is "print-through" and happens when the magnetic image prints through....if you must have an echo of it, it's better to have it afterwards, like an actual echo, instead of anticipating the sound (like a "pre-echo") a beat before. Lukas

ah, makes sense! And here I thought they were ripping off the end of "Whole lotta love.

I received my box set today, and so far I am very pleased by the music, the packaging, and the booklets. The only immediate disappointment is that the title and track names don't come up with either windows media player or iTunes.
This is pretty bad for such a big release!

I'm waiting for mine still, but the LLL website has a generous helping of 45+ minutes of sound samples. That'll hold me until the box is delivered.

Jeff Bond does another interview on the ST Collection, this time on the enjoyably erudite Movies on the Radio with host David Garland on New York's WQXR classical station. There will be plenty of music and talk, as usual. This show will be up for a few weeks, and I recommend checking out previous episodes as well:

Let put this all in perspective:

We received nearly 1000 orders in less than 15 minutes...and a shitload more since 1:15 pm on Dec 4.

We have 12 people (give or take) working on processing and packing orders from 8 am to 9 pm, no weekend breaks.

Thank you for your patience

MV

These efforts are very much appreciated! I got an email update this morning at 1:05 a.m. I think those that don't have the set yet understand the work involved in fulfilling the orders even while they are eagerly awaiting their package.

I hope that the entire project is a huge success for La-La Land and I thank you for delivering such great music to your customers.

I just got a "Will ship in 2-3 days" notice on both orders. smile

I'm working on some custom covers to tide me over until my boxset arrives. I know most are trying to stick with the LLL seasonal color scheme (which I like actually). Here I'm trying to blend all of them into one template. Certainly not as good as some of the others posted here, but fun to make nontheless. smile

Here's the rest. I still want to make album covers for each of the season library cues.

If you want to see individual covers this link should take you to them.

The custom album covers that many folks are working on are very cool.

Doing a full-sized cover for every episode seems counterproductive. I doubt anyone is going to print them for each episode since there are only 15 discs. What would be really nice would be 15 full-sized covers that correspond to each disc in the collection for the folks that do end up putting each disc in their own jewel case. Further it would be nice to have a 300 X 300 or smaller nice looking cover for each of these discs that can be used with your favorite media player and/or you could create individual covers (also not full-sized) for each episode for media player use and embed them into each track.

I do appreciate seeing all the artwork that folks are doing. smile

This set was mentioned in the Wall Street Journal!

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324640104578161231400318700.html

"Look at 'Gone With the Wind,' 'King Kong,' 'Jaws' or 'Jurassic Park.' Those are blow-you-back-in-your-seat scores. We don't have music like that anymore. It's like the composers are afraid to stand up and be noticed."

Except David Gerrold doesn't realize it's certain producers and directors who have toned down the state of movie composing.

Greg Espinoza

In fairness, he did say it's like the composers are afraid to stand up and be noticed, not that they actually are.

Hey guys, I noticed something, on Disc 1, Track 33 "Coochy Coo/Godfathers", you can hear a bit of the later part of the cue playing softly in the background.

This is "print-through" and happens when the magnetic image prints through (hence the name) from one wind of the tape on the reel to the next, I presume over a long period of time.

This is why it's preferable to wind tape "tails" rather than "heads" (having the beginning of the tape in the inside of the wind, not the outside), because that way if print-through occurs, you get an echo after the fact, rather than one before the fact—think of a loud orchestral "hit," if you must have an echo of it, it's better to have it afterwards, like an actual echo, instead of anticipating the sound (like a "pre-echo") a beat before.

Lukas

AAAaaaaaahhhh, I'd often wondered about that little "echo" I've noticed on certain CD releases of older material.

FSM: entertaining and educational!

Don't shoot the messenger. I submitted all of the titles to Gracenote. If the discs are not being recognized immediately, copy and paste can be your friend.

Neil

P.S. I typed in every track title every time we got a new reference disc from Doug. Puts things in perspective, doesn't it?

Sorry, Jörn - when I made these I was thinking of album art for my iPod or computer - not something printable for CD trays. Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you like them. smile

The Gracenote database is clearly having problems. Most recent CDs seem to be absent, despite many reports of users uploading the track titles.

(It's worth noting that while many players (prominently, iTunes) use Gracenote to get track titles, the service itself is owned by Sony.)

iTunes will not allow you to use CD-Text. Is there a plug-in or something for Windows Media Player? Can somebody walk us through this thing?

iTunes will not allow you to use CD-Text.

On a Mac, there is an Applescript that will import CD-Text into iTunes. It's linked to somewhere deep in this very thread, and it works like a charm!
