Your little wisdoms

What are some little things you have learned from experience?

Not those big, wide-ranging, philosophical things that we generally read about in books, just some small things that YOU'VE come up with on your own.

Here's some of mine:

--If I need bananas that are truly ripe, I can find them at a donut shop, or in a tiny "Mom and Pop" market.

--I can set out to do a certain number of tasks of a Saturday, but each of them always take longer than I expect, so I'm not likely to finish them all.

--If I think of something that I need to remember and then say to myself, "Oh, I'll remember THAT!", I will generally forget it. So I then write it down.

*******

What are yours?

Just because one is born into a family by way of some cosmic lottery doesn't mean one must love, or even like said family.

My "wisdom" is of the jaded fashion. Otherwise, I'm a helluva guy, as you've all seen from my posts over the years. wink

If it's petty, don't sweat it.

If it's sweaty, don't pet it.

  • Never buy a home built by Pulte Homes. They cut corners everywhere.

  • If it smells like cologne, leave it alone.

  • At your place of employment, never write anything down that you don't want anyone else to see because it will be found and they will see it.

  • If you don't want to forget to take your dinner out of the freezer in the morning, put your car keys on top of the refrigerator at night before going to bed.

Always put your car keys, cell phone and wallet in the same place.

More lies occur in a Family Court than in the Criminal Courts.

Trust your very first intitial, gut reaction. If you try to 2nd guess it you'll more than likely get it wrong.

While driving, think ahead of the other driver/drivers possible move. Because if you are thinking it, they probably are too.

A commitment in a relationship is more than one of the heart, its of the mind. The heart is emotional and emotions change with the wind and that daily. A mental commitment helps keep the heart in check.

People can only assume what a persons motive is or what they may do based on what they themselves would do. So if you know of someone who is distrustful of people, do not trust them.

Never get involed with a woman or man [depending what sex you are] who is still married or still in a realtionship with somebody else that has lasted for a long time and they tell you it's you i want not them. Look people, if they can leave and hurt their partner they have been with so long by cheating now, the time will come they may very well leave you and hurt you as well[bridges at Madison county- She did the right thing, stuck with her hubby]. Some people never change, some people just never change.

A great lesson I always try to impart to my residents...

"It doesn't matter how I MEANT it, it's how the other person INTERPRETS it that is the important thing".

Too often we get the "But it doesn't matter as that's not how I meant it" excuse...it's bullshit...

Exactly. It's not "I'm sorry IF I offended you." But rather "I'm sorry THAT I offended you."

Always tell a film distrubuter, your film costs alot more then it did. Then if your film becomes pretty well known, tell the reporter how cheap your film was to make.

Causing offence is not a crime.

Turn the other cheek - till you run out of cheeks.

Bang that head that doesn't bang.

    - Never do today what you can put off 'til tomorrow.

    - The essence of life is truth and fairness to all. If you can fake those ... you've got it made!

Being an accountant means I practice these each and every day smile

I was asking my mother a lot of questions about cooking when I first left home (she's a great cook) & she got a bit bored & said:

Look, when it's brown it's done & when it's black it's buggered up!

    Very good cooking advice.

If you can keep your head while all around are losing theirs...... you probably haven't grasped the situation.

    Common sense isn't.

Foolproof devices are; when a fool uses them, you have all the proof you need.
