Seems like they collaborated good on Red Hook Summer, as Hornsby is also scoring Lee's upcoming Old Boy, starring Samuel L Jackson. Interesting, but I'm hoping for more instruments than just solo piano, as on Red Hook Summer.

Damn, I'll be optimistic about this, but I was hoping he'd bring in Terence Blanchard for this one.

Yep. Nyman was talking about it on his Facebook page the other day.

Hmm...quite disappointing. Wonder what happened? Hornsby is touring extensively, maybe that's the reason.

LOL, really? Maybe they should just go with NO score, and then we could reject the MOVIE.

According to Nyman, Spike Lee liked the score but the suits didn't.

The quote:

"OLDBOY UPDATE!!!! Spike Lee loves my score. Unfortunately the producers, Matt Leonetti and Audrey Something-or-Other [of WeTakethePiss Productions] don't like the soundtrack and [despite, or because of, their boast that 'we know nothing about music'] have rejected it. But at least some good comes out of it: my 11th Symphony will be called 'Spiked' [by analogy with journalists' work which is commissioned, printed in galley proof form, rejected and consigned to oblivion by being hung on a spike sticking out of the wall close to the editor's desk]."

The release date has been pushed back. My guess is the producers also want to make some changes to the film, along with giving time for a new score. Hopefully an expanded amount of time will rule out your normal go-to 3-day replacement composers of late.

Hans Zimmer is already waiting in the wings...

Bump that. How fast can Terence Blanchard write a score?

With these producers you can forget the idea of an intelligent score.

I think that producers were incredibly shocked when they found that Nyman didn´t write any 2-note theme.

They also probably heard a flute.

Looks like they are giving Roque Banos a try on this film. Good luck Roque!

Spike Lee is a consistently over-appreciated film maker.

Indeed good news! Nice to see that Hornsby will continue to work with Lee, in spite of the Oldboy score rejection. One mistake in the news article though, Red Hook Summer was not Hornsby's debut, he also scored Lee's 2009 documentary Kobe Doin' Work.
