OK, this seems like another completely useless remake but with good director on board and some interesting casting choices and now great composer also joining the project, this should be interesting. The movie is coming in mid October 2013.

But let's get to the point...

it's....

...this guy again!

Are you sure? That is a picture of Marco Beltrami, isn't it? I've read that John Powell is scoring this film - you can see his name on the poster.

The deal is confirmed signed.
Also Powell is fortunately taking a time off.
There has been a plenty of posters (one also including Jodie Foster who was briefly in negotiations to play Carrie's mother, the role that went to Julianne Moore in the end). Not sure if any of them is actually official, since the movie is still 6+ months away from being released.

...this guy again!

A portraiture trick they used to use quite often a while back.
If the face was a particularly bland one, they'd lean the subject so his hand would push up against the temple, to lift up the outside of the eyebrow to break the regularity of the features and give an illusion of intensity. Interesting to see that old technique again.

It would have been more interesting if Powell had done it. Beltrami has scored this type of film countless times before.

I guess what this probably means is that the filmmakers want this one to sound like the other teen horror movies Beltrami's already done.

--Not that he isn't capable of scoring something different, of course. I hope he gets other chances to stretch.

On the other hand, suppose they let him try to emulate the score from the '76 version. Something more melodic, even romantic.

. . . Nah.

(What's the most-times-officially-remade movie in history, by the way? I'm guessing "Carrie" has quite a way to go still to top it, even if you count "Carrie 2" as a remake of sorts.)

I miss the days when Hollywood would release movies based on Stephen King novels instead of nowadays movies based on Stephen King movies' box office return.

That said, I will check out Beltrami's score.

A guess - not intended to derail the thread - Dracula?

I love Beltrami and I'll look forward to this score, but I can't say I'm not disappointed, as I'd heard Powell (one of my absolute favourites) was scoring this too, and was really looking forward to hearing his first horror effort.

Good luck Marco, but to beat MR Dinniogio's score from 76, might be like trying to climb Mount Everest. Possible but a long shot.

I would have preferred Powell too.

Does Beltrami have a monopoly over remakes, re-imaginings, prequel, sequels?

Powell would have been nice.

He also seems to have a monopoly on replacing John Powell (there's something suspecious about that; maybe an agency relation, or the composers suggesting each other).

"Jonah Hex"
"Mad Max 4"
and now "Carrie"

I wish he had and could have scored Total Recall based on his "monopoly".

Carrie is a King's book. Chloe Moretz said that this film will be much more faithful to the book than Brian De Palma's movie. Too bad that Powell isn't scoring it.

And Powell seemed to have a monopoly of replacing Carter Burwell

"The Bourne Identity"
"Gigli"
And I thought their was another one, but can't remember which one (but I could also be mistaken)

Anyway, I think Beltrami will deliver a solid score for this one (just like Chris Young, Beltrami can score this stuff in his sleep). Looking forward to this one, but I wonder what Powell would have done with it!
