Re: James Horner is currently scoring Carlo Carlei’s upcoming film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. The film stars Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld in the title roles. The movie’s cast also includes Damian Lewis as Lord Capulet, Natascha McElhone as Lady Capulet, Lesley Manville as the Nurse and Ed Westwick as Tybalt. Other actors include Paul Giamatti as Friar Laurence, Ed Westwick & Kodi Smit-McPhee as the lovers’ cousins, Tybalt and Benvolio and Stellan Skarsgard as Prince of Verona.
Academy Award-winning writer Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park, Downtown Abbey) has penned the screenplay based on William Shakespeare’s play and is also producing the Amber Entertainment production with Ileen Maisel (Ripley’s Game) and Lawrence Elman. David Tattersall (Star Wars: Episode II & III, The Green Mile) is the film’s cinematographer and Peter Honess (L.A. Confidential and the James Horner-scored Troy) is editing the picture. Oscar-winning costume designer Milena Canonero (The Shining) serves as co-producer.
Romeo and Juliet is currently in post-production and a release in 2013 is expected.

To Lokutus: Forgive my myopia, but what drew me to this posting was your mention of composer Abel Korzeniowski in your title but no mention of Korzeniowski anywhere else, and I followed your link to the article about the new "Romeo And Juliet." What have I missed? Have been a big fan of Korzeniowski, with his music for Tom Ford's "A Single Man" my favorite, although I also have his "W.E.," "Battle For Terra," "Escape From Tomorrow" and "PU-239," and maybe more. Please direct me to the Korzeniowski part, which I'm having problems finding. Thank you!!!
Wait! Now I see it! Korzeniowski hired to do the soundtrack. But you might have wanted to save new readers from having to search for page 7 of the 13 pages of postings to find that Korzeniowski was surprisingly hired to do the soundtrack for that film. You could have added a line in your original posting to make that point. Rightl?
Follow-Up: And now I've taken the time to read ALL the pages here and experience each step as some would rip James Horner apart while others rushed in to support him. But it was nice to learn of all those who love Abel Korzeniowski's work, which I have for a number of years. I noted elsewhere that I have "A Single Man" (my favorite), "W.E.," "Battle For Terra," "Escape From Tomorrow," and "Pu-239" in my collection. I made a playlist I called "KORZENIOWSKI & SKUBISZEWISKI," including my A.K. music and that of Cezary Skubiszewiski, including his thrilling "Death Defying Acts." While their music seems to complement each other's, I think I just liked the LOOK of those 2 names together!

Yes, I was just finishing my own addition to the above as you sent yours. But don't you think the person who posted this should have added a line about that in the original posting? Because he or she certainly added Korzeniowski name in the title of it, and at the same time could have mentioned that too. Something like:
Regarding the above, Abel Korzeniowski has been hired to re-do the music for the new "Romeo And Juliet."
I happen to be a big fan of Korzeniowski and have collected his music for a couple of years now, so I'm very intrigued by what he wrote for it.

As much as I love Korzeniowski's music and am looking forward to the above cues, I must confess that I kind of wish they had chosen Carter Burwell to do it -- but maybe they couldn't afford Burwell after probably paying Horner a big chunk of their budget.

....This has happened to Horner, Goldsmith, Barry and others..except....you know who! lol
But..the reason this truly happens is Director, Producer, Test Audiences. When The film is shown to a test Audience...they write down the things they loved and hated. And with time to spare...Cue in the new Composer. Today's scores are a throw away. Many Producers and Directors would rather just start over and hire another Composer..than to..have Horner..or whomever do rewrites...The King of No Rewrites was ...Yes...John Barry. He would not do it...I think he did two rewrites to Kevin Costner's Dances With Wolves..and even Costner said he was scared to go to Barry..because of the reputation of Barry of not doing rewrites...but Barry did it.
When the Producer and Director and Editor...Temp the Film, while editing..They are the ones who use the old dead Russian's music..and they tell Horner or whomever..while watching the early edits...while they are using Temp Music..We want this type of music here, and there...That is why..on some composers we hear shades of the past music of Russian Composers, and so on.
While I am not defending that James Horner...and never will. He does lift more than his share of other's people music more often it seems. Well he has been well documented of lifts. James Horner's Massive Problem is Jame Horner. Insert Foot to Mouth Syndrome he has. He berates and talks shit about other composers...and pretends he never knew who Jerry Goldsmith was..growing up..though he attended recording sessions...hummmm...

Yup, just click back to the earlier pages of this thread and read posts by Kevin Costigan from February and June of 2013 to read what Horner's score sounded like. Mr. Costigan watched the film 3 times with Horner's score in it.
