Just got this link via twitter a few minutes ago - Giorgio Moroder has set up some Soundcloud pages and has been posting tracks, some unreleased and rare, and some, like, well...

THE SCARFACE MAIN TITLE.

Yeah, that one. No Castro. No SFX. Scarface. Main. Title.

The official soundcloud download buttons have reached their limit, but with a modded browser like Firefox you can at least grab a version until it's renewed (or until there's an actual CD release).

"O-M-F-G?"

Yes. I do not text speak often, but that was what I said when I heard this, so that's what I put.

Is it some kind of rip? I thought I heard engine sounds at one point...

I think I know what you're hearing....but it's a synth sound...triplets descending...some percussive effect. I think so, anyway...

As far as I can tell, it is the actual track. Believe me, I tried ripping it myself once using extracted audio streams of the separate DVD channels - it was *impossible* to get anything beyond a few seconds clean because of the way it was mixed in the film.

Does Morodor have the rights to upload the tracks?

Didn't even know "Mr. Disco" was still among the living.

I'm using Firefox but I still can't download anything from that site, oh well....

As for the lovely instrumental cue from Scarface that kicks in after the intro (which btw is missing the synthesizer lead line); I was told by Arthur Barrow a while ago that he arranged and performed that track as well as most of the songs (incl. Take My Breath Away from Top Gun). Barrow played Fender jazz bass and synths and Zito played the electric guitar.

Barrow and Zito were Mr. Moroder's studio band between 1983 and 1986. they
definitely had a big, strong sound, I must say.

The movie version of the theme from Midnight Express was performed and programmed by Dan Wyman and Harold Faltermeyer while the LP version was performed by Greg Mathieson.

Something I noticed is that Success has a very similar, if not the same, sound effect that plays on the Scarface game when you switch between songs as they are "cassette tapes" that you swap in the game.

I hope he puts Too Hot to Touch Instrumental on there!

Great stuff. The Scarface Main Titles is of course a classic, but I also really enjoyed the 40 minute instrumental suite Underwater Impressions from 2003, co-composed with Daniel Walker. I wasn't familiar with this. It's on youtube in four parts too, so I managed to burn it to CD...

Any other fans of this suite?

Damn, sorry I missed the downloads of these! I wish that alternate version of "Chase" was from a better source. I already ripped it from my DVD and the version that Moroder posted also has sound f/x in the background. LOVE the movie versions of these tracks...the 12" version of "Chase" is a brilliant and iconic piece on its own, apart from the film...the version heard in the film is beautifully timed to the scene for which it was written and has a haunting quality that isn't really present in the soundtrack LP / 12" version.

I keep wandering if the Soundcloud-poster really is Mr. Moroder himself! Some tracks does sound pretty bad and contains SFX and some tracks are taken from a vinyl source, If it is really him he should have a medal for his postings wink
Too bad i missed all the downloads so far though frown
