The beginning of this thread has gotten a bit outdated now, because we are not only about to get Insurrection complete, but *before* it we got Best of Both Worlds complete, and GNP has hinted at more, both in this thread:
"Star Trek is a great part of our catalog but we do actually have an otherwise large repertoire that we manage. We're happy to polish up some of the older releases now (yes, you should thank Lukas), but we haven't been gone, just doing non-Trek things."

...and in the recent press release for Insurrection:
"GNP Crescendo Records is proud to announce another volume in its continuing series of expanded Star Trek releases."

That to me says there is more Trek to come from them (if Insurrection was the last I think they would have said something along those lines rather than referring to a "continuing series" at the end of it) so I for one am looking forward to Encounter at Farpoint, complete and remastered with new liner notes!

And like I said in the first post, I hope they don't forget any other in-perpetuity soundtracks they have in addition to Trek.

"but we haven't been gone, just doing non-Trek things."

Well, it's not like they stopped doing Trek albums and continued to put other soundtracks on the market. If you enjoy the other genres they offer, then sure, they've been around. However, as far as film score aficionados are concerned, GNP was gone for quite a while.

I'm just as glad to have them "back" and hope to see more non-Trek film and TV music albums come from them.

Personally I'd love an expanded edition for "Caretaker" since I like this one a whole lot. There wasn't much music missing (I think) but all the material from the beginning, where the Voyager is docked on DS9 and starts its mission sadly wasn't included. Imho it hurts the listening experience a bit, because other than Goldsmith's main title you have to wait a long, long time on the OST before his theme actually appears in Chattaway's score as well.

(And since I don't like the Banjo-music on there at all, I sure wouldn't mind a version of Track 5 without that inclusion of the Banjo-music. I'm not even sure why it was added there in the first place. When I first listened to the OST, I thought that would be how it appeared in the episode, but when I watched it again the next time I noticed this wasn't the case at all. The banjo-music on the OST doesn't even sound like the one in the show.)

I was thinking of Voyager myself.

I'd also love to have the complete release for "Encounter At Farpoint", some good music left off that.

I think it would really be great to release an expanded version of the "Caretaker" with that wonderful cues around the docking at DS9. That would make the album even more interesting.

I also think that "Encounter at Farpoint" is badly in need of a remastering. It could work wonders for this wonderful McCarthy score. Look what could be done on the expanded "Generations"! smile

There's been some more discussion of the missing cues in the Voyager pilot score release in this new thread presumably targeted at LLL (but they don't have access to the pilot score, presumably):
http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=94597&forumID=1&archive=0&pageID=2&r=562#bottom

Though I was somewhat underwhelmed by the previous version, the discussion in that thread has me more interested in a remastered expansion because a decent amount of the missing material is supposed to feature variations on Goldsmith's fantastic theme, which was one of the things I missed in the underscore. Here's hoping GNP puts out expanded and remastered editions of that and Encounter at Farpoint, and I'd welcome input on what important stuff might be missing from their original release of DS9's pilot, The Emissary...

I would be very happy to see an expanded “Encounter At Farpoint.” I love McCarthy's soulful work at the beginning of the series (I'm one of the few who LOVED all of the “Haven” material on the Next Generation set).

I'm sure most people have caught the news in the other thread, but just in case I'll just mention that GNP has reissued Encounter at Farpoint, expanding and remastering it, as well as featuring new Jeff Bond liner notes! Not only that, but they've added the complete episode score to Arsenal of Freedom:
http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=101698&forumID=1&archive=0

Pretty great news, and I can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves next. After they finish with the Trek stuff they control the rights to, I hope they take a look at some other things they might own in perpetuity, such as Lee Holdridge's lovely Old Gringo...

I wonder if they still have rights to any Godzilla music.

Well, it's been over a year now since Encounter at Farpoint, so it doesn't seem that GNP is staying with their former rate of 2-per-year Star Trek expansions. I do hope we'll see more from their "continuing series" though. After Farpoint I at least expected remastered complete versions of the other two Trek pilots they own in perpetuity (DS9: The Emissary and Voyager: Caretaker), hopefully each with some other unreleased score for the respective that's as good as the Arsenal of Freedom addition to Farpoint.

And I'd still be excited for a remastered complete Old Gringo by Lee Holdridge if they hold that one in perpetuity...

It was probably just coincidental two came out in a year. There's likely no set-in-stone schedule. I doubt in this "big" niche market GNP would come back and only do Trek expansions (though I could be wrong; hope I am, especially if they own anything in perpetuity).

Oh, they definitely own a good amount of stuff in perpetuity (otherwise FSM would have been able to include Best of Both Worlds in their Ron Jones Project TNG box!)...it's just a matter of what's left in that state that they haven't yet expanded.

Since we have now entered Star Trek's 50th Anniversary year, this thread is worth a bump! GNP came out of dormancy to give us expanded editions of the Trek films First Contact, Generations, and Insurrection, as well as complete remastered versions of The Best of Both Worlds and Encounter at Farpoint (with a bonus complete score added to the latter).

After a steady stream of Trek soundtracks from the specialty labels from 2009 (when Paramount opened up) through Varese's Deluxe Edtion of Star Trek Into Darkness in mid 2014, we have actually had an extended dry spell with no new Trek releases in 2015 at all. MV Gerhard of La La Land Records explained that they were holding off on more Trek releases until the anniversary year. We now know their next release will be a Volume 2 of Next Generation music... perhaps surprising that it comes out before even one volume of Voyager from them!

I wonder if GNP Crescendo has had the same thought about waiting to release more things in 2016, and maybe the Voyager pilot, Caretaker, is due to be expanded from them soon. Total speculation on my part but that may be why LLL is holding off on their first Voyager release (or perhaps it is just more complicated to put together than TNG Vol. 2). I'm excited at the prospect because people in this thread and others have spoken about some good unreleased cues by Jay Chattaway and I wonder if there may even be any unreleased alternate recordings of Goldsmith's title theme produced in his recording session.

It was my understanding LLL has plans for this TNG v2, a VOY set, and an ENT v2.

I was looking for them all last year, but I guess they waited until the 50th Anniv.

If I recall, the DS9 set sold really well as well. I'd be game for a second volume of DS9, but would love to see a first pass at VOY first.

I am frequently wrong about things, but I'm pretty sure "Voyager" got in line behind the other series simply by virtue of personal preference on the part of the producers.

Getting in line behind the other series is one thing, but it's a bit odd to be getting a *Vol. 2* for another series (the most represented series of all, in fact, going by number of discs) before even the first volume of Voyager.

Not so odd when you consider that the producers had already gone through "Next Generation" extensively (remember, both shows have over 170 episodes) and were pretty familiar with the terrain. Or that "Next Generation" was by far the more popular show.

There are also those of us who find "Voyager" painful. But now I'm editorializing.

It's also possible that the LLL guys simultaneously worked on TNGv2, DS9v2, and VOYv1, and TNGv2 is simply what happened to get approved first.

Hah. I'm in that company...but the music on the other hand did have some highlights. After all, the first couple seasons of Next Generation are pretty darn painful as well, but they contain some of the best music of the series by far.
