Any takers? Little concerned about the changes. I have hundreds of playlists that were easy to read by use of the side bar. With iTunes 11 there is no side bar and you have to browse through hundreds of playlists icons all in one page. Creating new custom playlists seems convoluted in this new version as well.

Heres some info:

The new iTunes 11 has a minimalist interface as it has been completely redesigned. The new interface has no sidebars. All your music collections are displayed in square album arts. It has no other views. So Apple has advised to ensure that all of your albums have album art so that it will be easy to browse. You can toggle between your Music, Movies, TV Shows and Apps by a drop down menu on the top left.

Edit: Here's the link for the iTunes 11 update video.

If you have hundreds of playlist, like me, for I have along the left side MANY soundtracks in alpha order, having to go through them in that toggle mood is going to not be fun. I know now a days everything has to be flashy and pretty, but a good old fashioned LONG list for me with my alpha list of soundtracks is much quicker and easier, I can see a lot of them real quick.

Not looking forward to upgrading now.

Agreed. Not only do I have a long list of scores, but I also have them broken down into sub-folders.

Animation, Anime, Live Action Films, Television, etc. I guess the new interface totally wipes out that system and bundles everything together.

Apparently there is no "classic" mode either. So I don't see upgrading until I have no choice.

I upgraded and ALL my playlists are there so I'm happy.

Though after watching the short video about what's changed, the big thing that caught my eye is, their ENTIRE goal in all of this, is to make is easy and quicker for YOU to buy THEIR music. The whole purpose of all of this is not to make it better, but to get you to buy more, course isn't that the purpose of about every product, they want more of your money. I chuckled at how they kept going on about it.

It looks fine, but what I REALLY need is:

a) a way to make the background black in 'album view' and..
b) a way to make the album covers smaller in 'album view', so it's easier to scroll through the 990 albums I currently have.

You actually can re-enable the sidebar, for those of you who miss it.

Click on "View" in the top menu, then just click "Show Sidebar" - it's that easy. Just take the time to look before complaining!

For me, the sidebar is not the problem (I have no particular need for it).

But I've looked high and low in iTunes & the net for an answer to my own questions....unsuccessfully. frown

Thanks for all the responses. Thank Gods one can get the side bar back. That was my biggest issue. And yes the whole upgrade is about making it easier for you to BUY more product and be exposed to more product. roll eyes

I must have read early reviews which specifically said no more side bar, and you only had the choice of avatar view. I get the feeling keeping the sidebar as an option was a last minute decision.

I'm an avid itunes user and playlist junkie. I was sad to see coverflow go, but I've warmed up to the new look. I'm also really impressed by the drop-down album cover effect. It matches the cover art colors perfectly in almost every instance.

Good question. There should be a slider at the bottom right corner where you can shrink the thumbnail previews. (or enlarge) This is standard on a Mac finder window. But its not on the iTunes window.

I'm really impressed by that little bit of magic as well! Though most of my playlists don't have cover art so its kind of a pointless feature for me.

I'm just glad they brought colour back to the sidebar. It makes it much easier to navigate, hopefully Finder in OS X 10.9 also gets them.

One bug I've seen, with Audiobooks, I have an Audiobook ( Star Wars Radio Show) tagged as 7 CDs, tracks 1 & 2 on each CD. When it plays them it plays all track 1's, then track 2's.

Wow, some loyal Apple folks are not happy with this upgrade...

Had a bit of a play with this...yeah, it's fine...but anyone found out how to add artwork to multiple tracks rather than do one at a time? Was simple before...can't figure it now....just need to play more I expect...

The only thing that's been driving me crazy is when I go through the library list on my recently imported music, it doesn't save the spot where I left off when I create a playlist. Older iTunes used to remember where I was in the library list, but not here. Always starts at the top, and it's always a long way down.

It's been taking a bit of time to get use to, especially as I like to manually drag and drop albums onto the phone and before you had instant feedback it was copying the files, not as much with the 'Downloading' function.

The one question I wanted to ask fellow users of iTunes was, have you noticed how many recent CD's the track information does not come up for ? Some example CD's : Die Hard with Vengance, Body Heat, Battlestar Galatica Vol 3&4, to name but a few. So it's not linked to one label... I have only noticed this in the last few months, it was never a problem before.

What is strange is if I use Roxio (used as a burning tool, not for encoding) sometimes the information does come up, but I thought both software used the Gracenote CDDB ?

I'd really just be happy with iTunes if the idiots who can't tag albums properly just got the hell out of Gracenote.

Apple has become the Microsoft of the 21st century. They have the "We are on top of the world so deal with it" attitude that was their former opponents strategy. They make assinine decisions, they gut their Mac applications, downgrading them for the iOS market. And they are completely unresponsive to complaints from their consumer base.

I have owned Apple computers since my Mac SE of 20 years ago. Never thought I would see the day when I am seriously considering dumping them, but it sure looks like what it is coming to.
