Has anyone heard any news about a new release of the OST of Elmer Bernstein's The Ten Commandments ?

Only from the Kabbalists, who have been working on this problem feverishly, night and day.

They find there to be significance in the numbers 2 and 5 and the term "OMG."

Currently, their calculation works out something like this:

2 tablets

of

5 commandments each . . .

OMG!: Oh, My God!

. . . equals "250."

What the number 250 means, of course, is anybody's guess.

I assure you, there are top men working on it. Top men.

Why has nobody redone this monumental score? Somebody give us Ten Commandments like the FSM Ben-Hur edition! Please! I hope somebody in charge of this stuff is listening! This is one of the best scores of all time!
It has been requested so let it be done!

You may be interested in a thread started by Yavar Moradi on Sep 24, 2011 - 6:40 PM. There was talk about a re-recording of The Ten Commandments by Nic Raine which was said to have been forsaken due to reasons that would become evident. There was a strong implication that The Ten Commandments score was being remastered or would be released soon. However, 4 months have passed without any word on it, so I don't know what to believe at this point. It could all be a hoax or rumors. Here is the original thread:

We've waited long enough. I say we all collect everybody's old gold-CDs, melt 'em down, and start building a golden calf. If we worship the calf hard enough, you know, start dancing around and gyrating and stuff, then . . . .

Perhaps it was the same person who claimed some 3 or 4 years ago that people shouldn't buy SEBASTIAN from Harkit as someone else had already been working on it... and still... NOTHING!

Truth be told, after Nic Raine's and James Fitzpatrick's spectacular recording of Basil Poledouris' iconic score for CONAN, I would rather hear their take on The Ten Commandments in modern sound fidelity than have the original remastered. The 1956 recording is already out there and I'm skeptical that remastering the tapes can improve the sound quality enough to meet current standards.

Please remember releases get delayed for any number of reasons. Intrada Records has stated in the passed few years titles that took "five", "eight", and even one that took "ten" years to get released.

And the person in question is Lukas. If you think he wouldn't know, then you'd be saying you know better. I trust him:

You may have heard, or will be hearing, rumblings about the thieves at Harkit issuing a CD of Goldsmith's Sebastian.

We had major problems with Harkit releasing pirate versions of Bell, Book and Candle and Klute before we did the official ones, and we had to have lawyers stomp on them to keep them from pirating The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Anyway, if they do something with Sebastian, DON'T BUY IT.

Can't say any more -- it's not us working on a license -- but you would be VERY SORRY if you spent money on Harkit's inane vinyl transfer and then saw what was subsequently released for real.

Get it?

Thanks,

Lukas

Bump!

Coming 2015 from Intrada, possibly in a 5CD set....

Doug Fake from Intrada, March 2013

You'll be getting a spectacular presentation of The Ten Commandments before too long, so don't worry. When you hear it all, you'll elevate it from "a fine score" to one of the greatest ever. But in the meantime, definitely enjoy FSM's spectacular release for The Wild Bunch. Another one of the greatest ever.

James Fitzpatrick from Tadlow, October 2014

The Ten Commandments must be close to setting a new "in development" record by now.

Yes it must...because 3 years ago I was going to do a new complete recording of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS but was put of doing so by Intrada as they were going to issue "the ultimate" Ten Commandments set. Wish I had gone ahead with the recording now.
[...]
Looks like record labels are falling over themselves to release as many titles are possible that the whole market is now swamped and depressed which I forecast even before Intrada started on their Ten Commandments quest....

Roger Feigelson from Intrada, 2 hours ago:

As others mentioned, Doug already revealed this about a year ago. This will happen, probably next year. Lots of hurdles to overcome, but could potentially be a 5-CD set. We'll see. James would probably still have time to record and release it if he really wanted to. I'm sure there's room for multiple recordings.

But yes, this is exactly why I don't like to reveal titles before their time...people get impatient and angry when things take longer than expected. That's life in the world of soundtrack production....

Finally! Doug's comment had been ambiguous at best, but now that's all irrelevant as we have hard confirmation.

Excellent! And by that time my finances might be open to allow for purchasing things.

5 CD-set?!
Well, after this news I will wait more silently than ever.
And if all Intrada's plans will come true, this one will become nice neighbor to FSM's Ben-Hur wink

I even not care if it will be completely in stereo (this will be VERY cool) or partly in mono (Spartacus & The Miracle sounds fantastic, despite that main program from both are in mono - I really enjoy this days restorations, when mono recordings sounds so good).

So, this is my first and the last post about upcoming Ten Commandments before official announcement. wink

Personally I would love a rerecording of this score as well as the original. Tadlow has done some fantastic re-recordings (El Cid, Conan, etc) and I have no doubt they would do a fantastic version of this. Since this is going to take longer than expected to get the originals, maybe there's hope for a re-recording now.

Ditto -- I want both too! Plus James might be able to record some music written for but not recorded for the film as he did with El Cid!

I was unable to find the original CD at all for years - and then found it twice in a month this year. Weird.

Definitely needs a reissue.

I would have still been happy with just the complete original recording, but at a 5-disc set it sounds like Intrada is planning to give this the Ben-Hur treatment and I'm just ecstatic!

That'll be fine, just as long as they're not giving it the Spartacus treatment wink

That's really all I wanted to know. It won't be coming in 2014; perhaps 2015. When it is released I will be very pleased as will many others on this board.
