TO CHARLES THAXTON- WAR OF THE COLASSAL BEAST- Yes, and you would think a sister would not want to show up in the media with a brother like that[-ha-ha] it's interesting if one wanted to disect the plot of so many films where there is such small mistakes like that, you be finding them in thousands of movies.IT'S ONLY A MOVIE, IMPORTANT IDEAS, BUT ONLY A MOVIE.

Regarding the Bond movies, there is some light continuity. Entries with Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan have, in some way, made reference to Bond's deceased wife, who was introduced in George Lazenby's movie. Plus, Moore's Bond started with Bernard Lee as M before getting Robert Brown, who was also M for Dalton and Brosnan.

I've always viewed the Bond films (from Dr. No to Die Another Die) as being on a floating timeline, much like most comic books. So Brosnan's Bond is the same as Connery's Bond, and those adventures involving people like Dr. No and Goldfinger still occured, but just (taking Brosnan's age into account) more recently.

Another one: X-Men: First Class and The Wolverine ignore the events of Wolverine while it looks like X-Men: Days of Futures Past will ignore the events of First Class (since that film is returning to the continuity of the first three films).

Um, Brown's last performance as M was in Licence To Kill. Judi Dench took over the role beginning with the Brosnan films.

We won't know anything until Days of Futures Past is out, but I don't see how it's ignoring First Class. It's a sequel with the same cast, although it looks like they will be using it to essentially merge the new films' continuities with the first three. (Which doesn't really excite me, since I didn't care for those movies.)

Also, it's been revealed that Wolverine 2 (I hate the title they're using) is set after The Last Stand, and that doesn't mean it will be ignoring Wolverine.

The PLANET OF THE APES series certainly has its issues:

http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=2383&forumID=1&archive=1

Especially if you also include the Burton and Wyatt films.

I've been wanting to make a thread in the style of this one strictly about the ALIEN franchise. There's a lot to make sense of there, especially when you include not only the four movies but also the two AvP movies and PROMETHEUS. And then other films which reference the same universe -- like BLADE RUNNER, PREDATOR films and SOLDIER. Where should one stop? And then there's the ton of literature and comics as well.

I Spit On Your Grave 2 has no connection with the previous installment...other than a central plot point being reused...

The Bring It On movies have nothing in common with each other save that they're about cheerleaders (and arguably their plots).

Gah, never mind. Came upon an old thread somehow and replied to one of the earlier posts, not noticing I'd done so already, months ago.

Another curveball - Ghost Shark 2: Urban Jaws...not only was it unrelated to the previous film....there IS no previous film*.

* - Well, at least there wasn't - until some suited dick at SyFy decided to spoil the joke.....but they are still unrelated.

A number of James Bond films don't reference earlier adventures either.

I deliberately didn't mention James Bond because I feel that that's a special case, for the most part a series of standalone, unconnected adventures in a franchise that have some characters in common and even some recurring characters but little by way of a strong thread of continuity.

I'm not sure I agree. Until the Casino Royale reboot the only real inconsistency in the actual timeline that I can think of was Blofeld's lack of recognition of Bond in OHMSS, having been up close and personal in YOLT.

And having recently watched YOLT, I'd forgotten that Blofeld immediately recognises Bond when the latter is unmasked as a bogus astronaut - making him even less likely to fail to recognise him when he turns up at Piz Gloria in glasses and a kilt.

On the other hand, who gives a toss? smile

8mm 2, which I just had the misfortune of watching, has no connection whatsoever to the previous film (I gather from Wikipedia that it was shot under the title "The Velvet Side of Hell" the re-titled when distribution rights were secured)...but why even connect it to the previous film?? It just completely escapes me, unless there genuinely is some financial value in doing so but one would think in this day and age that word-of-mouth (especially on Teh Interwebs) would be enough to kill any possible monetary advantage stone dead...?
