Who's going?

James Horner has been chosen as the recipient of this year’s Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award, which will be presented at the annual Hollywood in Vienna Concert at Vienna Concert Hall on October 4, 2013. The Max Steiner Award honors extraordinary achievements within the genre of film music by the musical capital of Austria, Vienna. Previous recipients of the honor include Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore, Lalo Schifrin and John Barry. Horner has written over 100 film scores including the scores for the two biggest box office hits of all time, Titanic and Avatar. His other credits include Braveheart, A Beautiful Mind, Aliens, Apollo 13, Legends of the Fall, Field of Dreams, The Perfect Storm, House of Sand and Fog and The Amazing Spider-Man. The composer has been honored with ten Academy Award nominations and received the award twice for both his score and the song My Heart Will Go On from James Cameron’s Titanic. He has also won three Grammy Awards for Titanic, Glory and An American Tail. Horner most recently recorded his score for Carlo Carlei’s Romeo and Juliet, which is expected to be released later this year. To find out more about the Hollywood in Vienna gala, visit the event’s official website (currently not working).

If I can, I certainly want to go. But there's Krakow in September and Ghent in October, so it's a lot of expensive stuff happening at the same time. And at that time, I may also have a job that precludes me from going. It's VERY tempting.

So does this mean Horner will be present at the concert to pick up his award, or does it mean he will actually be conducting the concert?

Well the blurb says this:

"This year, our guest star James Horner, conductor David Newman and the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra set off to discover fascinating new worlds".

And then, right down at the bottom, this:

"and also the master himself will take over the conductor's baton".

So who knows!

John, it states quite clearly at top left on the front main page "Conductors : David Newman and James Horner"
Don't you be chickenin' out now!

Whether Jimbo is just gonna shout 'tickets please!' by the door is a whole other matter smile

May they'll perform Battle Beyond The Stars then!

I'm so on the fence, Kev, I really am. But with Collectormania 19 and 20, and LFCC and the huge Doctor Who 50th Anniversary convention in November... plus the Elfman... I'm just not sure I can justify it. And much as I'd love to see Horner!

I'm going, it will be a challenge to combine it with the Elfman concert but I'm game.

Horner and Elfman live in the space of 4 days!
Incredible! (and unmissable!)
What a cool programme too! James Horner's greatest hits!

Booked! (I think, the website was a bit difficult to navigate considering the extent of my German is kaput.)

I am also doing the Horner / Elfman double. Can't wait!

How about some get together in Vienna too?
Personally I have never been there before so if anyone is familiar with anything near the concert hall, which is open nonstop or doesn't close at midnight, it would be great to meet.
