March 25, 2013, a unique publication in listen to the cinema! The integral Jacques Demy / Michel Legrand box 11 CD capbox "In the design of a film, I need people who are my allies. Therefore, I try to surround myself with people that belong to the same family as me. With Michel Legrand, the link is even stronger: it is not a contributor but a brother. It is no more a composer but a fountain in music." Are the words with which Jacques Demy welcomed his double musical, partner of life and creation for thirty years and nine feature films. A fusional meeting offered French film a work organically music, deep and complex, in pink and black. Inauguration April 10, 2013, the exhibition Jacques Demy at the Cinémathèque Française, listen to the movie collection! is proud to publish the most ambitious undertaken since its creation: a box of 11 CDs bringing full Michel Legrand for Jacques Demy works collection. To make this project a reality, it took lead a long track, relentless research, 20th archaeology. They gave rise to several providential discoveries: that of the bands three original tracks of the umbrellas of Cherbourg has enabled a new mix of this classic, also of the American of the Demoiselles de Rochefort, but never published version recorded by Legrand and Demy in Los Angeles, discographiquement. For Lola, his first Demy, Michel Legrand noted three main themes from the film itself, before going into studio to re-record them identically, as close to the 1960 version. You can also listen to First Lady Oscar partition full, lush Japanese production takes place under the French Revolution. The exploration of the respective archives of Michel Legrand and Demy family also helped update of tapes or discs acetates of models of research, including work sessions. They occupy an entire CD of the box, allowing the listener to enter behind the scenes of the creation and Legrand and Demy. Finally, a last CD brings together reviews and times in all kinds of songs born of the films of Jacques Demy, interpreted as well by Sergio Mendes, Isabelle Aubret, Tony Bennett, Bill Evans, Astrud Gilberto, Stéphane Grappelli... As a testament to the durability of these melodies, of how they escaped the film to conquer the planet. Demy and Legrand appear to have been for the other revealing bathing. The world colorful and cruel to the filmmaker seems inseparable from the orchestrations to high sophistication of the composer, its lyricism, its appetite for all languages, from baroque to jazz. This story told you here in 11 CDs. A box set enchanted to remember-song collaboration. (Translated by Bing) James

Well, this is probably the release of the year and I don't care what the hell any of us are doing.

There is nothing - nothing - that could improve upon what this release seems to be, and have in it. Very curious to hear Julian More's English lyrics for "Les Demoiselles de Rochefort," having done my own translations of many of the songs ages ago for a prospective stage version - I'm sure his work is as charming and delightful as the Demy originals. Also very much looking forward to the disc of Legrand work sessions and demos - I've always enjoyed the ones on the original 'Les Parapluies de Cherbourg' and '...Rochefort' CDs. Also, there's a better than good chance that perhaps the film version of "Amour, Amour" from "Peau d'âne," will make a much welcomed appearance. But enough foolish speculation on my part - no matter what's actually on it, it sounds utterly tremendous, and the music is always beautiful, inventive, and never anything less than brilliant. I'm glad I've got a little time to save up some extra shekels for it, but come March 25th, just try and stop me from ordering this marvel of the modern world.

I've had the English LP of the English version for years - I adore it. I also had a 16mm IB Tech/Scope print of the English version - they shot all the musical numbers twice (not the dialogue scenes, though) - once in French and once with the actors mouthing the English lyrics.

A spectacular release for sure. A definite buy. It'll take something pretty stunning to beat it for release of the year.
