Just wanted to mention this great wee score to any horror fans out there.
Its for the remake of the old slasher MANIAC and the films actually meant to be quite good. The composer, Rob (!) has obviously a fondness for the old synth scores that graced an Argento or Lucio Fulci film and it really has that retro feel ( with a wee bit of CANDYMAN thrown in for good measure). Not for everyone on here but lovers of this kind of stuff should keep an ear out for it.

This is a very effective score that works tremendously in the movie, and is also a good standalone listen. A great shame it is download only, but at least I was able to use a 25 per cent off Amazon MP3 voucher.

Here's my old Cinema Club entry on the original film:

I wasn't aware they were doing a remake, though.

The remake's been done. My question is, where is it? By the way, the Blu-ray release of the original is horrible. There's no excuse for how faded it looks. It looked better on laserdisc, and the trailers, included as extras look great!

Maniac had a decent cinema release in the UK - I caught it when my local cinema brought it back for a second week.

Just saw the film, which I found so-so. Doesn't match the original, which I linked to above. But had some intriguing audiovisual choices and the splatter violence was appropriately uncomfortable.

That being said, I absolutely ADORED the score. What a great synth score with plenty of references to 80s stylings. I went to iTunes and bought it immediately.

I've never heard of Rob before, though. Need to check out more now.

Even though lots of people bitch about digital music and iTunes, on this day I give thanks for it as scores like Maniac probably wouldn't get a CD release, and poor Thor would be bummed after seeing the film and loving the score and not having it to listen to. Hooray for iTunes and its broadening of the availability of film music!

Excellent! I'm glad you finally got around to this score, which still gets a lot of listens from me. Rob also scored Alexandre Aja's latest film, Horns, and its a completely different sound: melodic and orchestral and often bittersweet and lovely, it reminds me of a score for a fairy tale. Do check that one out!

MONDO released this AWESOME score by ROB on Vinyl. I am lucky to have a copy.
Certainly one must keep track on vinyl releases as well as thy precious cd.

There needs to be a downloads-itunes-et al section of its own. Never shall Curry download any music or film/video!
