Ordered this CD the moment I heard the samples! It arrived quickly and I have been enjoying it since. It is classic 80s Horner. One thing I cannot quite figure out is the difference between:
15. Family Supper 1:14
16. Family Supper 1:15
I suppose the pitch sounds a little different but I keep missing the difference. Perhaps I'm deaf!
Anyway, a big thanks to Intrada for releasing this wonderful score!

I'm not a Horner completist but these samples are gorgeous.

Will be ordering soon.

Are the guitar solo's on IN COUNTRY performed by Tommy Tedesco? Sure sounds like his delicacy in playing. That music is heartbreakingly beautiful. Anyone receive their CD yet where they can check if Tedesco is the Guitarist? SAE says mine has shipped, so I might see it today. Thanks.

My IN COUNTRY CD arrived today and Yes, to answer my own question, Yes it is Tommy Tedesco in the orcherstra on Guitar. He is credited as Thomas Tedesco. Other notable orchestra members include on violin, Bruce Dukov (who I always thought, looks so much like James Horner) and Jerry Goldsmith's usual concert master Paul Shure. Malcolm McNab provides the superb Trumpet solos.

What a great release. Thanks again so much Doug Fake and entire INTRADA Team! Bravo!

Listen to each cue around the 20-40 second mark. The second one has added synth/orchestra and the pauses between piano notes seems different too.

Hard to believe Horner kept using the same 'tragic' theme for similar situations in Uncommon Valour, Alamo Jobe and this and nobody called him on it! He's quite the cheeky chappie wink

Beautiful soundtrack.
The more Horner repeats himself the better (as others said you can find plenty of UNCOMMON VALOR et. al. in this).

Don't let it go before it's too late

What? Do you not get tired of listening to the same music over and over? I do.

D*mn. Just when I have a little bit of cash to do some catch ups, this has gone frown

I don't suppose there's any chance of an additional run?

Amazon.com still has copies at the regular price and lower.

Thanks. I've managed to find a supplier in the UK who has/had a copy. If it that doesn't work out, I'll look up the Amazon.com listing (the .co.uk doesn't have them).

Does anyone have a suggested order as to where to place the extra tracks within the context of the album tracks to create one playlist?

Geez, I had to search long and hard to find this thread, as no search engine -- neither FSM's nor Google's -- would find it.

Anyways, another one I haven't properly played in years. It's really a shame, because it's quite good. It's Horner with those solemn Americana trumpets, foreshadowing things like APOLLO 13. And some moody, explorative textures - like the title track. Haven't whittled this much either, but I removed track 10, which was just a short Americana statement that was already well-represented, and the last track -- track 17 -- which was a return to the ambient flute textures of "In Country" and worked poorly as an album ender. The soft, piano-led, penultimate track "Family Supper", works better.

I sometimes find that typing in the label at the beginning (Varese, Intrada, LLL) on Google, before the film title or composer or FSM bit, many times locates the thread (like this one).
It doesn't always work, cos it's a bit of a lottery, but it has uncovered it from time to time.

Yeah, tried that too, and many other variants. Didn't work. But I found out the title was released in February, 2013. So I searched for POSTS containing the words "in country" in 2013. Then worked my way back some 20 pages in 2013 and found it. LOL!

Yes I always thought the theme sounded familiar! Effective nonetheless...though I don't see anyone mention that it opens with the snare rhythm that also opens Glory, Aliens, Apollo 13, etc...almost any score involving military/government gets this exact riff. I never found it a problem, but I wonder how many percussionists rolled their eyes over the years!

You forgot the Horseman flight music! I think its in "The Fourth Horseman" track which served as a preamble to the flight music. I can't remember off the top of my head if it appears in the proper "Write Your Soul" track (also known as "Flight") or not.

It does not. It was just in the "Fourth Horsemen" track.

Always disappointed Horner reused his Uncommon Valor theme here. Uncommon Valor was always a favourite score and the emotional finale when Gene Hackman’s character learns his son had died shortly before rescue is heartbreaking. The theme is perfect for the film. To hear it again here was actually irritating. I always wondered why this score never had an album at the time, considering how popular Horner was. I wondered if this was a reason.
