(February 19, 2013– Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the Snitch – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 and on CD March 5, 2013. Antonio Pinto (Get The Gringo, City of Men) composed the original score. Summit Entertainment, a LIONSGATE® company, Exclusive Media and Participant Media present Snitch, in theaters February 22, 2013.

Antonio Pinto received a Golden Globe® nomination in 2008 for Best Original Song “Despedida” co-written with Shakira from the film Love in the Time of Cholera directed by Mike Newell. Most recently Antonio scored The Odyssey, commissioned especially for the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, and Senna, a critically acclaimed documentary based on the life and career of Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna. Senna was the winner of the 2010 Sundance Audience Choice Award and 2011 BAFTA winner. Antonio is currently scoring Witness an HBO series Executive Produced by Michael Mann.

Antonio Pinto has been scoring films for nearly a decade including many award winning pictures including Perfect Stranger Lord of War, The Vintner’s Luck, Collateral, Central Station, Behind the Sun, and Midnight. He has collaborated with such directors as Asif Kapadia, Michael Mann, Mike Newell, Andrew Niccol, Niki Caro, Fernando Meirelles, Walter Salles, Sérgio Machado, Heitor Dhalia, as well as up-and-coming Ecuadorian director Sebastián Cordero in Cronicas starring John Leguizamo and produced by Alfonso Cuarón and Jorge Vergara.

In the fast-paced action thriller Snitch, Dwayne Johnson stars as a father whose teenage son is caught in possession of a package that, unbeknownst to him, contains enough narcotics to warrant a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years. Desperate and determined to rescue his son at all costs, he makes a deal with the U.S. Attorney to work as an undercover informant and infiltrate a drug cartel on a dangerous mission – risking everything, including his family and his own life. The film is directed by Ric Roman Waugh from a script written by Justin Haythe and Ric Roman Waugh.

I watched "Snitch" today and just loved Antonio Pinto's music, especially the title cue with its mournful violin, which we hear best near the end of the film. I went to iTunes Store and bought that cue, and listened to cues from "The Host," "Lord of War," "Senna," and others. And I found Pinto's use of violins and guitar and keyboards quite intoxicating. Anyone know much about him, besides his being born in Rio?

Very nice guy and I have loved his music ever since seeing Lord of War and Love in the Time of Cholera, which is still my favorite score of his and the song he co-composed for this one was robbed of an Oscar that year... he was having quite a time recently with Snitch, The Host, The Odyssey and Get the Gringo, which also had some very good moments. It sucks that several of his scores are just shittunes... but better then nothing, I guess.
His use or rebec is his trademark and you can usually recognize him for that within seconds.

I like his writing! Funny, but until I watched "Snitch" today (actually yesterday), I had never, to my knowledge, heard of him. But his music can be intoxicating!

We watched the movie a few months back, enjoyed the movie but found the score to be - well, not awful, but - just not there. It didn't add anything at all to the drama, just seemed to be very ambient and drone - driven. While watching the film the music was only noticeable due to how it just didn't seem to have any connection to what was happening onscreen.

I've not tried listening to any of the score apart from the movie, however. Ah well, different strokes I guess big grin

Does the score work on its own apart from the movie?

MikeP:

Well, I enjoy the insistent title track (4:22), which I bought at the ITunes Store, and don't at all regret buying. But didn't like the rest enough to buy the CD. If you have a minute, take a listen.
