Can anyone give me pros and cons? I recently purchased Apple TV and I'm considering picking up Hulu or Netflix and dropping cable. It appears Hulu shows current first run series from the major networks. Do they become available the day after broadcast? Is network bandwidth congestion an issue? Etc.
I used Hulu a few years ago, to catch a couple episodes of some shows I missed. It was okay, but performance was a little wobbly. Nothing I'd want to rely on for my entertainment. I'm just not into streaming my shows or movies. Now that I have a DVR, I use that when I have to, but even then it's more for keeping things I might want to rewatch. I still prefer watching my television episodes when they air rather than letting them pile up on the DVR to watch later.
Unfortunately, Hulu isn't available outside the US. So while it seems like a great service, I've never been able to use it.
....except that you can use Hulu in the UK (or certainly could - I used it quite often until about a year ago when I no longer needed it) with a plug-in for Windows Media Center.

No such thing in Norway, I'm afraid. Then again, I don't think I've ever used 'Windows Media Center'.
I'm not quite sure if the world is ready for streaming media. I'm concerned about lagging streams and drop outs. My Apple TV works great for streaming downloaded videos from my computer to my television, but I've had drop outs streaming directly from iTunes Apple store.
Though it all starts with ones internet speed and strength of the router. My router seems to be running only at 3/5 it's ability. So I have my internet provider coming out to check on things. Even if that is at full strength I wonder about the reliability of streaming services.
I am an almost nightly watcher of Netflix streaming and Amazon Prime -- both are reliable and steady sources of entertainment for me. Inspector Morse recently appeared on Netflix, and I am enjoying revisiting that series at my leisure.
I went through a period of a month or so last year when Netflix seemed to freeze/pause frequently during streaming -- but that ended after a couple of days. Amazon has been virtually glitch free in my experience. Amazon offers 5.1 sound -- which Netflix has not yet upgraded to.
I also tried the paid version of Hulu a while back -- but the commercials drove me to distraction, especially since you could not easily skip through them -- it seemed like endless interruptions. I ended my trial subscription due only to the commercials. Otherwise it seemed like a reliable service.
Both Amazon and Netflix are commercial free, thank goodness. If Hulu has or will stop their insertions of commercials, I would reconsider using their service.

Even the PAID version of Hulu has commercials?! Wow, that's insane. I'll skip them. Maybe I'll try Netflix, that service is available thru my Apple TV. Thanks for all feedback.
