Who else loves the music from this Julie Andrews movie? I haven't seen the film VICTOR/VICTORIA in ages, but the GNP CD is never far from reach. I play the highlights often. The main title is smooth, emotive Mancini magic. "Le Jazz Hot" is probably the most exhilarating song I know. Lots of goodies here.

I love it, too. I also have the Broadway Cast Recording. Lesley Anne Warren singing "Chicago, Illinois" is the standout for me.

I liked the film, although i did like 10-79-better. I liked the score but i did like 10 better. However BINGO, you took the words right out of my mouth as far as LE JAZZ HOT-a incredible vibrant song fom HENRY, that just sends you flying, hopefully not into your furniture in your house.

The casting is perfection, The music top notch. When I saw it on release I went with a bunch of my fellow community theater geeks....good times.

"It." In the immortal words of Daffy Duck: "Pronoun trouble!"

Gary -- RU talking about 10, or VICTOR/VICTORIA?

I have always loved the film and the score, and I have the cast album too, and I was lucky enough to see it performed last year in a limited run in London.

Crazy World is probably my favourite song from the score, cut from similar cloth as Whistling in the Dark from Darling Lili (and filmed in a similar way too). The expanded Turner CD is simply a must have.

I like this score a lot, too, though I rarely play it these days.

I bought the GNP/Crescendo release about 12 years ago after my parents said they'd enjoyed the film and liked the music. I like a lot of Mr. Mancini's earlier scores but find his later ones less interesting ... always a great main theme but not so good as a whole score listen (e.g. Without a Clue, Silver Streak, The Thief Who Came to Dinner and The Thorn Birds but this score to Victor/Victoria has plenty of variety and deserves high praise.

I enjoy the film, too, having watched it two (three?) times.

But, for me, film and score pale against my favourite HM "musical": Darling Lili ... the main song from which (Whistling Away the Dark) ranks top with Two for the Road as my best-loved HM melodies.

Henry Mancini and Leslie Bricusse took home the Oscar for Best Music, Original Song Score And Its Adaptation at the 1983 Academy Awards for Blake Edwards’ comedic masterpiece Victor Victoria. Receiving a total of seven Oscar nominations, the film about a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman starring Edwards’ wife Julie Andrews continues to beguile and charm audiences over three decades after it hit the big screen. Henry Mancini received his first Oscar nomination in 1955, later scooping four wins across a prolific Hollywood career that includes Moon River from Breakfast At Tiffanys and the title song of Days Of Wine And Roses. Lyricist Leslie Bricusse is a British song-writing legend with an extensive catalogue of worldwide hits which include Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice and Candy Man through to a vast range of musicals. Mancini’s long partnership with Blake Edwards began in television in the 1950s with Peter Gunn and had continued through the decades. The period score he created was a perfect match for the director’s screenplay and Mancini’s long friendship with Julie Andrews enabled him to write songs for her incredible octave range. From the beautiful ballad Crazy World to the show-stopping Le Jazz Hot this release brings together the entire score with bonus tracks, not least Robert Preston’s hilarious rehearsal of the song Shady Dame From Seville. Release date for this fascinating soundtrack reissue will be July 8th.

Great news, thanks Ron. I like all of those but especially Love Me or Leave Me, what terrific acting by James Cagney and Doris Day!

1982 was such an awesome year for filmusic, and Victor/Victoria was a bubbly and welcome contrast to the action/adventure/horror masterpieces from that year.

Robert Preston should've won the Oscar that year. Of all the snubs and robberies in Academy history, passing him over is in the pantheon of derp.

I expect the content of the new album to be mostly the same as the Rhino edition with a few extras.

I can't wait to get the film on Blu-ray.

I compared the 31 track list from the Rhino release to this. They are identical with nothing new as far as I can see.
Rhino got this on one disc. I wonder why SS has two discs.
