Next weekend the lights go green on the 2013 season and I for one am very excited.

Aside from movies and movie music, F1 has always been my passion and is the only sport I have any interest in (I enjoyed last sunner's Olympics but apart from the odd tennis match and the Boat Race I have no interest in other sport at all - football just leaves me cold). So I'm really looking forward to the year ahead.

I'll be supporting Jenson Button and McLaren again even though I suspect they will be a bit off the pace for the first half of the season - they seem to have trouble developing their new car (which is revoluntary whereas every other team seems to have gone evolutionary). I'm personally glad to see Hamilton go to Mercedes. The guy is a very quick driver but he's a bit of a dick.

I recall last year posting here about the start of the season and only a couple of people seemed interested. Is that the same this year?

Looks like it!

I'm looking forward to the races that they show on BBC, but unless I bang my head and have a change of personality, I won't be watching the Sky-exclusive races. This was a disappointing development, and I have no interest in watching edited highlights - the drama and tension lie in watching them live. I'd rather do without than chuck any money in Sky's direction on these terms.

That said, I hope that Vettel doesn't dominate again. I lost interest before when Shumacher was winning everything and although I like Vettel it gets so tedious when one driver dominates race after race from pole.

Good luck to Button - if I had to choose someone to cheer on, yes, it would be him.

Well I for one have been anticipating next weekend since the closing credits of last season. I love F1 and have been to Silverstone several times to watch the action - not yet ventured abroad yet but Spa has to experienced before I meet my maker!

I'm a big Button fan and see this year as serious title bid opportunity - although recent speculation leads us to believe that the car may not be too great! I think Hamilton will give Rosberg a hard time and more than likely win a race or two. Man to watch .... has to be Kimi - the beer swilling loose canon is unpredictable and certain contender. Woman to watch ..... well Suzy Perry of course !! wink

Rich, Spa is awesome. And seriously, Eu Rouge is so much steeper than it seems on TV. And actually a weekend at the race works out about the same as a weekend at Silverstone or not much more.

I've been fortunate and have also gone to races in Turkey and Valencia but Belgium was by far the best.

Agree about Suzy P although Natalie Pinkham on Sky is pretty easy on the eye too.

Mike - yeah, Eau Rouge is a bit special and I agree, Hamilton is a total nob!! I was glad he moved to Mercedes too ... never really liked him. However, I wish Jenson wasn't so damn fussy and could drive as quick as Hamilton regardless of balance etc.. The Missus and I both dig F1 and BTCC. We occasionally get to Brands to see the Touring Cars. Short trip over the dartford bridge - I see you too have the dubious pleasure of being essex based ! wink

I'm into BTCC too - went to Brands for the season finale last year which was good fun but very wet and cold. But such a cheap day compared with F1! We should meet up sometime if you fancy it.

I am indeed Essex based now but am not actually an Essex boy! I don't have fuzzy dice in my car, don't drop my "H"s and only rarely wear white stilettoes! I'm from Hertfordshire originally but ended up here for career reasons.

Whereabouts in Essex are you mate?

Talk about a small world - I live in a villiage near South Woodham Ferrers so not a million miles from you - and I worked in Hornchurch up until 2011!

And there was me convinced I was the only soundtrack collector in this part of the world!

No, you're not on your own - certainly is a small world! I work with a guy who lives in SWFerrers - not far away at all. I have a long way to go until I can call myself a collector though smile I had a fledgling interest in film scores years ago and then lost my way a little!! Only the last couple of years have I really embraced it again.

You planning on going to any races this year??

Can't see us going this year unfortunately! Yeah, Mr Monotone/monosyllable will be gracing us with his insights full of disinterest!

That McLaren better have some upgrades or Button's gonna become a has been. Glad he finished ahead of Perez though - him and me aint gettin' along!
