If I counted right there are 35 in my collection - Delerue has the lion's share with 10.

Some picks:

- Sarde's "Le Choix des Armes/Fort Saganne" and "Tess/Le Locataire"
- Legrand's "Three Musketeers/Robin and Marian" (the latter is one of my favorite unused scores!) and the delightful "Baron de Munchausen/Les Schtroumpfs"
- Delerue's "The Horsemen", the collection featuring "Le Mepris" and the 6CD Box set
- Colombier's "L' Heritier/L' Alpagueur"

Fine choices JohnnyG, especially L'ALPAGUEUR, LE CHOIX DES ARMES, TESS, THREE MUSLETEERS, THE HORSEMEN....

I'll soon be getting BARON DE MUNCHAUSEN.

And musn't forget to mention Lalo Schiffrin's LES FÉLINS - A fine jazzy score from the Master.

Zero, I believe.

Hello Mr. First Breath. I strongly urge you to consider the following Uni France CD: LE MONDE ÉLECTRONIQUE DE FRANÇOIS DE ROUBAIX.

http://www.amazon.fr/Le-Monde-%C3%A9lectronique-Fran%C3%A7ois-Roubaix/dp/B0001ZA1P8

You might just be surprised AND delighted to discover the gold that lies therein. De Roubaix was at the forefront of the 'home studio' movement in the sixties and early seventies. He was as always an adventurous musical soul, never afraid to go against conventional wisdom. A true one of a kind artist.

I am pretty certain only three. 1. The Concert John Barry 2. John Barry American's 3. Unused score for Robin and Marian. I am a John Barry fan boy and like many of you here, I find it fascinating how different composers would score the same film. I am really not a Legrand fan, but was curious about what he did.

All great choices to be sure. Perhaps you should give Legrand a chance by giving ICE STATION ZEBRA a spin. Very stirring stuff! And if you like jazzier scores, THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR is almost unparalleled. LE MANS could also be of interest.

Is Mayerling by Francis Lai still available? If so, where?

You can get here:

http://www.priceminister.com/offer?action=desc&aid=523428845&productid=1545780

It would cost you 18.06$ US (including shipping).

I've bought many a CD from that seller in the past and I will again.

Maybe even simpler option to get MAYERLING at around 16.40$ shipped:

Yes. I see your point Urs. Perhaps he should order from Amazon.

Nevertheless, I've ordered nearly half of my Uni France CD's from this seller over the past two years (and I have over fifty of them). On average, the Uni CD's have cost me about 13.00$ CAN including shipping when buying on Priceminister.fr*. Also, where the CD's coming from the US take weeks to arrive at my door (in Canada - that huge piece of real estate North of the US) - they take days to cross the Atlantic Ocean and land in my mailbox.

* And that's without taking into account the Priceminster guarantee.

I have:
Legrand box set
Delerue box set
Delerue: Regarding Henry / Something Wicked this Way Comes
Legrand - Nouveau Vague
Goldsmith - Papillon

I'm looking at picking up some more from this label. Is there any real essentials anyone would recommend?

Chris.

Hi, captain_avis.

"essentials", to my mind, indicate specific titles from a composer's disography. Some discographies can be quite large.

With some of these Universal France albums, though, there may be only 1 or 2 albums in some composer's discography.

Martial Solal is one example.

I see you've alread gotten Legrand & Delerue, but both of these composers scored English-language films.

I'd recommend getting music from composers who never worked in Hollywood or England, IMO. smile

If recommendations are still being sought, then volume 21 of Écoutez le Cinéma! gets my strongest offering:

Thanks for the heads-up on this Pierre Jansen LP-to-CD! A welcomed edition to the Jansen discography. smile

If only to hear the unused music by Michel Magne for BARBARELLA, I recommend this lovely disc of selections from Roger Vadim movies scored by Magne!

I have received this wonderful CD today. And it is not an LP transfer as most people might suspect from DCM, but it has indeed been correctly licensed from Sugar/CAM in Italy (info is on the back cover of the CD). LA DENTELLIÈRE has long been in the CAM catalogue because CAM and the French Pema Music publishing company had always been partners. So Sugar now has the tapes and DCM quite obviously could use the album master in fine sound quality.
