Hello,

what do you think about Annette Focks?

At the moment Annette Focks is one of the most important film composers here in Germany. Some of here recent scores include

NIGHT TRAIN TO LISBON (2013)

This movie has an impressive international cast: Jeremy Irons, Charlotte Rampling, Christopher Lee

Here you will find some sound files:
http://www.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/24442/NIGHT-TRAIN-TO-LISBON/

OSTWIND (2013)

Ostwind is a story about a young girl and her horse. The music has a great main theme and much more powerful but also subtle tracks.

SIMON AND THE OAKS

Perhaps one of her best scores. For example the track "Journey to Berlin" is absolutely fantastic. It is a great variation of the Jewish-theme. I was very, very much impressed listening to this music the first time. Here you will also find some excerpts:

What do you think about these great scores? We are very proud that we were able to release them.

J.

Excellent female Composer. Know her scores "Themba" and "Krabat". Terrific stuff.

'Female composer' ?

I didn't know there was a difference music wise. smile

Did she compose the music for the German telefilm 'Romy'?

Did she compose the music for the German telefilm 'Romy'?

Yes, exactly. She also co-scored (with Laurent Petitgirard) JOHN RABE (Spielberg-style WW2 true story movie, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Rabe_%28film%29).

My favourite score of hers only got a promo release though (DIE KIRSCHENKÖNIGIN). There is a nice introduction to a couple of her previous works (including several tracks from DIE KIRSCHENKÖNIGIN) through Volume 01 of the excellent KOMPONIERT IN DEUTSCHLAND ("Composed in Germany") CD series. I can also second the KRABAT recommendation.

I have a couple of her scores - including Romy, Die Drei ??? and Ein Fliehendes Pfend - and do like all of those. Lovely music!

Mrs. Focks is a terriffic composer. One of my favorite scores of hers is the playful music to the german children movie "Die Wilden Hühner". What a memorable theme.

Before I forget it, "Dschungelkind" is also an amazing score by Annette Focks:

These are very nice. Thank you for calling attention to them.

"Simon and the Oaks" sounds a bit like Schindler's List.

hmm... found in on amazon de in the meantime too, but it seems that it includes music by Sigi Mueller only, while according to IMDB and Soundtrackcollector Annette Focks also worked on it... hard to say what exactly did she do... was it sort of additional music only? or two scores were recorded for the movie while only Sigi Mueller's score was released? wish I knew...

Die Wilden Hühner scores also slightly confusing too... the Cds are available for fairly good price, but she's not credited on either of them?

About SOPHIE:

You are right, this CD contains music by Siggi Mueller only. Now, I don' t believe that Annette Focks worked for this movie. She is not mentioned in the CD credits (music composed, orchestrated, conducted, performed).

But Annette Focks is mentioned in the acknowledgment ("Thank you to...") together with other composers (Egon Riedel...) and other people & companies.

One thing I can' t believe: that there were two scores recorded. I don' t know but I don' t think so.

---------------------

About DIE WILDEN HÜHNER:

Die Wilden Hühner scores also slightly confusing too... the Cds are available for fairly good price, but she's not credited on either of them?

CD - Die Wilden Hühner (Jumbo 441 471-2)
- Track 3-25: music by Annette Focks, performed by Philharmonic Filmorchestra Munich
- Track 1,2,26: songs NOT by Annette Focks

CD - Die Wilden Hühner und die Liebe (Jumbo 441 827-2)
- Track 1,3,5-19: music by Annette Focks, performed by Philharmonic Filmorchestra Munich + Seraphin Ensemble Munich

CD - Die Wilden Hühner und das Leben (Jumbo 442 317-2)

- Track 4,8,13,20-24: songs & Karaoke-version NOT by Niki Reiser

Also be careful, there are not only "The original Soundtracks" available but also CD-Singles with the Song only and "Hörspiel zum Film" ("audio drama to the movie"):

http://www.jumboverlag.de/Fuer-Kinder/2/Reihen-und-Charaktere/65/Die-Wilden-Huehner/129/
(link without soundtracks to movie #2, #3 which seem to be out-of-print)

Hope this answer was a little bit helpful.

Thanks a lot for this!!!

Except for Die Kirschenkonigin, which is probably almost impossible to find, these two Wilden Hühner albums are the last few missing in my collection... I will probably add remaining few as soon as my next paycheck arrives.
Still need to get Komponiert in Deutschland, Dschungelkind, Ostwind and Drei Viertel Mond but those are still fairly easy to find. smile

Oh, Wie Schoen Ist Panama is really delightful. Mostly tender piano and strings but it occasionally gets a little more robust and dramatic. Sounds straight up orchestral too. While I love Oswind it does suffer from the Zimmer effect.
