Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray releases of director George Stevens' Shane, starring Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur and Van Heflin, and screenwriter/playwright Neil Simon's The Odd Couple, starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. Both classic catalog titles street on June 4th.
You said it, one of the great comedies of all time. Never get tired of watching it every couple of years, Saw it twice in revival houses in New York as well over the years.
I sure hope they've restored Brandon de Wilde's final call - "Bye Shane!"
Thats not on the dvd, Ray? How'd that happen?(They took the time to digitally remove the moving car visible in the opening scene). If done properly , SHANE should look outsatnding on Blu-ray.
They removed Brandon's final "BYE SHANE" when they restored the film back in the 90's. They mixed in the optical music tracks and, in the process, eliminated that final line. I don't think too many people have noticed.

I did.
There are other things that need to be fixed in the print. Hopefully that'll happen and this won't just be a catalog dump.
Warner Bros. has pushed back the Blu-ray release of Shane, specifically to address consumer concerns about the film's aspect ratio. Acclaimed director George Stevens' classic rendition of the quintessential Western myth will now be presented completely remastered in its original 1.37:1 aspect ratio. Shane streets on August 13th.

You've got that right, because the version on D.V.D. looks washed out and a tad blurry.

Curious -- I was just reading on another site that SHANE was originally released in three different apect ratios including 1.66:1 and 1.85:1 , in the early days of widescreen films.
Havent all previous issues of SHANE been in 1.37:1 ???

I did too! The film has just been screened on C4 in the UK without that final "bye Shane". Having grown up with those two words as the crowning glory of Victor Young's glowing finale it just doesn't seem quite right without them somehow. So pleased I still have the original print on an old VHS!
