According to Quartet's own site, their disc on Stavisky is already sold out (!) Presumably still available at SAE (who haven't received their shipment yet) and possibly other outlets, but a sell out on this title is great. I've heard the composer himself ordered 5 copies!
To not sell 500 copies of a Sondheim score? Please. Of course it sold out. And glad Steve ordered some copies, now I don't have to send him one.
Was uncertain about this one but after listening to the samples a couple of times I was hooked. Just ordered from SAE. Another great Quartet release. Can't be too many left now....
I would love someone to explain to me in a way I can understand exactly what this new CD is. First Quartet says "no remixed" - check. But then they say they didn't like the CAM DAT master but that the album masters have gone missing. Check. But then they say that they went back the the session masters and reassembled the album from that - but wouldn't that mean a remix? I simply am not getting it at all. First of all, this new release corrects the problem of the other two CD releases, which had the channels reversed with the strings on the right - here they're back where they belong on the left - I'm pretty sure the original LP was correct. I'm hoping Jose can enlighten me - or Claudio. And IF it is a remix why the sax in the opening track is so far back in the mix - or if they had no control - sorry, nothing is computing to me.
The disc sounds much better than the previous two CD releases (or was it three) and so that's a big win. But I'd just like to understand exactly what was done here.
