I would appreciate it if as many as possible who bought this set could read and answer this thread, because I'm not sure what to do about this. I have gotten three, yes, three copies of this set sent to me, and they've all had significant beauty marks. The first one I've posted about before, something must have happened during the making of the set because one of the sides looks like someone had taken a knife to it and scratched it real bad. The second set arrived with a dent on one of the corners, and the same side as the dent has somehow been pushed more outwards, you can feel it both on the outside and the inside of the case, but it's most evident when the booklet is put inside, it looks as if it is floating as it doesn't touch the floor of the box, it sits on the ridges of the impact. Also, all four corners of the opening of the box has scuff marks. The black color is gone and replaced by the white underneath it (I noticed this on all copies, some had more than the other). There's also some small creases at the top and and one of the sides of the set. On the third one I noticed that one of the sides has a bunch of creases. It's not obvious if you're just taking a glance at it, but if you really look at it there are small creases going through almost the whole side. The creases expose the white underneath. There is also a dent on the back of the box and a series of creases at the opening of the box. There are no dents on the corners, but one of the corners has a crease which you can see when you look at the bottom of it. Both the second and third sets have creases on the inside of the box as well, which you can see first when the cases are taken out. It's mostly in the corners. So, is this set prone to these issues I've had, or am I just extremely unlucky? Sure, it's a long way to go from the US to me in Europe, but for God's sakes, you guys have seen how well padded these sets are if you've ordered them from La-La Land, there's two layers of bubble-wrap around it that should protect it good enough unless the postman plays football with the package. I have the Frisay the 13th Box Set, which has similar packaging and had no problem with that one. How does your set look like? Is it free of all the things I mentioned or have you experienced something similar? I'm pondering if I should buy another set and hold my thumbs, hoping I've just been unlucky with these three sets. I know some of you think this is rather silly, that I should be fine with the music, but as a huge Star Trek fan and collector, the package is important to me and quite frankly, this set is the best release of anything Star Trek-related that I've collected over the years and I really want it in great condition, if it's even possible. Thanks for reading.

Hello 80's, I had the same problem as your #2 set only in addition to what you describe, the entire season 3 clamshell was also damaged and just fell apart in my hands. It was a fairly hefty dent. I assumed it had been dropped before shipping as the cardboard shipping box was in perfect shape with no bumps or dents. It looked as if it had been dropped from maybe three or four feet or had been involved in a pallet or skid (warehouse) accident. I had purchased it from SAE and everything was looked after, (I had a new one within two weeks), with no fuss. ( I had paid for the Third World Country insurance they offer though.) The shiny glare from the plastic shrink wrap would seem to hide any damage until it was removed from the set. I didn't blame SAE at all. As a matter of fact they looked after me with great speed and courtesy. I dont know you Ed at SAE but thank you. - for the many times you've helped me. Your first set with the knife marks ? I have had over-zealous customs and excise agents slit the package open with their utility knives only to damage the merchandise inside. I remember receiving a book once with the dust jacket slit neatly all the way down the spine and perfectly lining up with the knife slit on the packaging courtesy of my local customs inspection service. When I brought to their intention, they claimed I had been sent a damaged book which just coincidentally, featured knife damage at the same place where they opened the parcel with a knife. There are ST boxes in good condition. If it was $20 bucks you could let it go, but I feel if you're spending $200 + on a purchase, you want it to be in good shape.

My set looks fine - no outer scuff marks or dents or anything. The only trouble is in the inside: many of the "teeth" are missing from a lot of the trays, and so I must open the boxes very carefully, otherwise the CDs just fall out - there's nothing to hold them in place. The ones that ARE held in place by a complete set of teeth take some dangerously bendy prising to get them out. The other thing is that I "always" have problems with those kind of packagings (I put "always" in inverted commas because the only other set I have of a similar kind is FSM's TV Omnibus). I would like to be able to freely open them flat like a book, but if I try, they generally go about half-way then the hinges come apart, or they stick half-way open and I can't close them. Now, that may sound very churlish and nitpicky, so let me just insist that I absolutely LOVE those sets - I made quite a few contributions to the relevant threads which discussed the fabulous music contained within.

Mine was in good condition. I had one set of teeth damaged where the disc didn't stay in place. I was able to flip it around, so the broken part is now located under the booklet. In season 2, I noticed opening and closing the box, leaves some light dents in the booklet. I do find it a difficult set to open and close properly. Sometimes the trays bend, detaching discs you do not want to remove. So, one must be careful not accidentally drop or scratch them.

I remember it being very difficult getting the jewel cases out of the slip cover the first time, they were all packed in there tight with the booklet. But other than that initial silly frustration, I have zero complaints. Mine is perfect.

I had the same issues as you, 80cianado. My discs 1 & 2 were very badly scratched, which LaLaLand very graciously offered to replace. Unfortunately the replacement discs were also scratched and I just resigned myself to it (in no way easy for me - to this day I hate that two discs in my all-time biggest grail are scratched). In addition to this, the horrendous quality of the black double-disc trays is in my opinion inexcusable. These were all (yes all!) broken in my set, but I replaced them with clear double trays anyway since that's what should have been used in the first place (when tray liners have pictures, imo black trays should not be used, certainly not of the quality of these - that easily rippable plastic with that burning tire smell to them). All this said, the music itself--all the incredible work that LLL and their collaborators did with track placement, remastering, their Herculean licensing efforts, etc.--is nothing short of a miracle. Just wish they'd be more stringent with the manufacturer they use.

Compare it to FSM's BEN-HUR 5-disc plastic trays to see the difference in quality. I also had to trim melted plastic off the trays with a knife as you often have to do with model kit parts. The hinges and the plastic used make it seem like its only a matter of time before they get transferred to regular cases.

I have no issues with my set, as I got it in person at the event. Even though the box sat and moved around a little in my bag I didnt have any real issues.

My set was in great shape. The damage came when I dropped it. Smash. (As I've mentioned before, LLL sent me a replacement before the week was out, bless them.)

Although mine took longer than I expected to make it through the postal system, when it did arrive it was in perfect shape. There weren't even any loose discs rattling around, which is common enough in mere 2-disc albums. Although it's obvious the jewel cases aren't quite as robust as single or double-disc ones, and the plastic feels on the flimsy side (I hate recycled plastic products), one of them has yet to actually break on me.
