Just got Bandolero! and Willard today....Bandolero! spinning right now. Speaking as someone who has too many releases of this score (kidding!) - starting with the horrifying Project 3 LP, edel CD, etc.... I think this is even a nice improvement over the last release (which was not bad). Recommended. Don't miss it if you are a fan.
Where is Alex North's original 1971 WILLARD score?
Where is WILLARD, period? A big hit in the summer of 1971, and a sequel, BEN, released the next year, but these titles have never been released on home video. There must be a rights issue in there someplace.
Anyway, I ordered THE CHALLENGE, not just because I want it, but also because LA LA Land deserves kudos for giving fans what they want. And I also ordered BANDOLERO! even though I have the Intrada release from 2004. Playing it just the other day I noticed there was some annoying hiss. I'll be very interested to hear how much the sound quality has been improved.

Judging as best one can from the clips, the noise is the same as before.
Im on the fence to order THE CHALLENGE again. I already have the Prometheus Edition. Is their a marked sound improvement to warrant a repurchase ? Any one have both editions?
Everytime I see WILLARD I say to myself where is the solid 71 version with a nice score by ALEX NORTH.Anybody have any idea if it is lost or just lying around collecting dust. I don't mean the film, I mean the soundtrack.
WILLARD (1970) WAS released on VHS early in the VHS era by Prism Entertainment, but never made it to subsequent VHS releases or DVD. I have no idea why. It's a classic! I hope somebody will correct that.
I decided to revisit Willard last week and I just can't stop playing it! What a reminder of the talent of the sadly missed Shirley Walker. Hopefully there will be more of her music released soon (looking forward to BTAS Vol. 3).

The Prism/Paramount cassette of the original WILLARD was issued in 1990. The film is still controlled by Rysher Entertainment, the successor to Bing Crosby Productions (BCP). Paramount has the distribution rights to Rysher's feature film library. In 2002, remake rights to WILLARD and its sequel BEN were assigned by BCP to Hard Eight Productions, the company that produced the 2003 version of WILLARD. Perhaps the contract underlying that assignment limits the ability to release the original.

I have both and the La La Land edition is an improvement, with a wider stereo sound and better fidelity. If you really enjoy listening to it, and it's become one of my favorite Goldsmith scores, it's worth getting.
That's great Henry! It's one of Goldsmith's quirkiest western scores with a super catchy upbeat whistling theme, but it's also got some awesome dark cues and great action music. It didn't start out as one of my favorites but it's grown to be one...
