Since getting into John Scott recently and wanting to discover all the unheard scores he did, I decided to go through them kinda chronologically. I like to hear a composers style grow and develop over time, so I've been getting into A Study In Terror and Antony & Cleopatra (God, what a LOVE THEME!!) at the moment. I did cheat on a few titles (Shogun Mayeda, Lionheart, Yor and William The Conqueror) but I'm gonna try and tackle each one in the order of year of composition. I'm currently hitting The People That Time Forgot and some of that is FANTASTIC! So I will report back with my thoughts after I've listened to these two scores (I will be honest though and say Bill Conti's replacement score for Prayer For The Dying is an absolute all-time favourite of mine and it will have to go some to top it).    Posted:   May 12, 2013 - 12:36 PM     By:   dan the man   (Member) Like so many of SCOTT'S melodic themes THE PEOPLE THAT TIME FORGOT opening and end credit theme has been a addiction to me since I first heard it when I saw the film in the movies in 77.He knows his melody. For example, LeHah mentioned Shergar. Well, this is exactly how I came to purchase Winter People/Prayer for the Dying. I saw Shergar advertised on SAE and tried to find some samples to listen to and perhaps purchase. I could not find Shergar but instead found Winter People/Prayer for the Dying and bought that instead! What a circle! I am looking forward to more John Scott and will give the recommendations a try. Shergar is next on my purchase list. After that will be The People That Time Forgot and ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA. THE SHOOTING PARTY-84- Top notch effective score-MOUNTBATTEN -86-Majestic, stoic and solid score. KING KONG LIVES-86- Grand main theme, tuneful as can be. THE WHISTLE BLOWER-87- Has a pretty haunting theme and good suspense cues along the way. THE DECEIVERS-88-Energetic score with a wonderful main theme.-WINTER PEOPLE-89- Lovely score., all the scores I mention I would recommend to anybody trying out his scores. I know it from the Screen Themes CD collection he conducted and it's a really memorable theme featuring good use of saxaphone and drums. It's something that comes from understanding it a bit, I think. JS has so much real compassion. The music can connect you to the people in the films and to understanding of human drama and choices, foibles, mistakes, solutions, existence.
